Another window tint question...

Guys, Nearly every car I see with tints are only done from the B pillar back. I know it's illegal to have the front side windows done, which explains this. However, I can't help looking and thinking it doesn't look quite right unless all side windows are done.

My next door neighbours X5 has had the backs done dark and the fronts a shade lighter. When you look at it side on, they all look the same colour due to how the light passes through the car.

I'm going to have ours done in the next few weeks, but I'm not sure I want it doing just in the back - it reminds me of the old car/vans when the back windows were panelled out!

What is the general opinion on here re this? Do you prefer all sides or just rears? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I dont have tints yet but i would rather have all the windows in a lighter legal tint than none at the front and the back ones in a dark "ugly kid" tint. I agree with you noddy that they do look a bit strange when the fronts are not done

That looks like the fronts are slightly lighter, but it may just be the photo. What grade is that? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

The fronts ARE lighter, I can't recall what shade they are but I think the rears were 70% and the fronts 50%. I think my fronts are illegal and I signed a waiver form when I had them done. I like the look though.

My next car will definitely have factory tinted glass though, it just looks better. Discovery 4 HSE

How do you find the fronts for visibilty? What about at night as well? Do like that, by the way! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Visibility in daytime and nightime through the fronts is fine. The only difference is that any privacy glass at the rear reduces your visibility when reversing, but then that's what parking sensors and reversing cameras are for.

As previously mentioned, even when lightly tinted, as soon as you decrease the angle of view, the darker tint takes over and makes the car look fully blacked out, which I like alot. So, when on the motorway and cars are passing you, they can't see in. This picture sort of illustrates the point.

I think I'm with Full Fat Not Diet - Lighter tints all round look better.

What do the law do when you do get pulled (rare event I'd imagine!), £30 on spot fine and a defect notice? Points? Or if you just rip it off while they're there, can you get away with it? In which case, its worth the risk of getting caught. The only problem is that once pulled, they'll look for anything else they can find wrong (this would be a problem only with badly maintained cars or if you're a drug dealer and keep your wares in the car Smile )

Another problem I have with dark tints is that when I give some other muppet a view of my out stretched middle finger for cutting me up, I like them to see it! Very Happy I'm too lazy to wind down the window to do it.! Smile

ha dmine done at 85% all round, got pulled by the old bill and got cautioned and was told i had a couple of weeks to get the front done to legal standards, so i then got the fronts re-done to 50% which is still illegal but i have gone past the same police car and numerous others and not been stopped yet.

Rule of the thumb is the police and vosa (who can actually impound your car for tints) like to see a lighter definition on the front over the rear, the police also said at night they like to be able to make out who is driving.

Funny thing was when i got pulled the officer had one those pure black terminator shades (100% tint) and i asked him what the difference was between him driving with them on looking out through the front window and me diriving without shades? he didnt have an answer.... ---------------------------------------------

Or any other gesture Larry

My point overall is there is a light tint that i think is 80% light penetration but still looks darkish at the front. If you then want darker at the back, I would then go for the next shade down on the rears which i think is 70%.
I am just not a fan of dark at the back and nothing at the front - just dont see the point - my kids are not ugly as they take after the wife Rolling with laughter

The law are cracking down on this and i have to agree with them that most cars that have them i.e the boy race brigade / hoddies / low level crims are probally doing other things illegally - No insurance, drug dealing, inor in possession of an ugly minga!!!!! Whistle

Don't get me started on the Fuzz. Some little jumped up tit once pulled me over when I had my RRS SC because I overtook him (legally) he just wanted to exert some power over what he thought was a young flash harry in a flash car.

What really got my goat was he was a Police Dog man, in his dog man escort estate, no speed calibrations etc. I just smiled and said what he wanted to hear but made sure when I pulled away I gave it some welly so he could hear the Supercharged V8! Mr. Green Discovery 4 HSE

I think my percentages are the wrong way round if you catch my drift - ie 80% light penetration would be a 20% tint etc... Embarassed
