Just looking for opinions on servicing really.

The cars in for it's annual service (oil change) and MOT at the main dealer today...£500 (and that is with 40% discount on labour and 10% on parts)

I do this because the car has been in the family from new and every service has been done by this one same dealer for the past 12 years. Considering the age and now rather low comparative value of the car...is continuing this perfect service history a total waste of money in terms of return on resale value (not that I have any intention of selling it)?

Personally for me the service you do is for peace of mind!

When i got my range in Oct 2015 it got a full service from a LR indi and it will continue to get that treatment until the end.

for me its all about peace of mind and knowing ive given my car the best i can.

Find someone you trust & stick with them

I have a local guy who looks after our cars - her rates are very reasonable and I trust that he's done everything he says he has.

I'm about to spend £450 on a MD service that seems to be basically an oil change and a bunch of checks - I would typically spend under £150 for the same thing.

I've decided that for this year, the MD service to remove any questions around the warranty, is money well spent - but after that I will be back to my local guy.

Yep I've got a very useful chap that I normally use for the general maintenance but have been using the main dealer for the matching stamps in the book.

Sods law it needs a few things doing for the MOT expiring tomorrow so the initial quote has ballooned somewhat.

I just figure the break-even - I sold my last car at 8 years old - by which time there was really no premium for a MD history over just a FSH.

I might need to sell the current one at 3 years old, so worth keeping the MD history just in case, but if I keep it beyond this year, It will likely be for another 5 years, so it will be cack to the indi

funny enough the original supplying dealer phoned me today as mine is coming upto mot time,
they quoted £680 for a major service & £480 for oil service

It will be going to the indi who has known it for the last 5+ years for a lot less 2007 tdv8 se ,stornaway grey

Can you DIY? Sure there are some jobs you may not want to, but draining the diffs and Xcase isn't hard. I must have saved at least 10,000 on rover mantenance by doing it myself and I do more. I change running fluids ahead of schedule, I change the oil more often than indicated. And I know it is done right (most of the time )

A European friend once told me Americans work on their cars more than Europeans. I didn't put much faith in the comment but perhaps there is some truth to it? Do you have to have someone else do the work for your registration?

Destruct, as we share almost the same car, I can tell you my last oil service and MOT cost under £250 all up at my local indie. Am now on 182,000 miles and running sweet.

In my opinion dealer service stamps are worthless (these are the guys who said I needed a £1,000 ABS unit replacement when a brush and clean was all that was required!) except to the uninitiated who also think low mileage cars are the best

Find a good indie, slip them a tenner every so often at Xmas and you will find they do a far better job.
