Getting water out of front fog lamp

Right its been bugging me for e few weeks - condensation in my nearside fog light.

So I decided to do something about it and get my tools out - I only do the simplest of jobs. On the powerful site it says remove the surround by accessing after bending the front splash guard out of the way under the wheel arch - I found just a bit of jiggling from the front and the surround came off with all tabs intact.

I just removed the 3 T20 torq screws holding the fog assembly in place and took the bulb out and took the assembly into the kitchen - warmer, less wind, less rain and a brew.

Then poked around inside with some kitchen roll and a small paint brush to remove all of the condensation and clean the back of the plastic lens. DO NOT attempt to clean the reflector as the silvering just wipes off. Make sure everything is absolutely bone dry remembering that the bulb hole is the only ventilation so I heated with a hair dryer with the hole at the top as follows:

Then I sealed round the plastic lens, which is where I think the water was getting in:

and refitted and I am pretty happy.

Oh and while I had it apart there was quite a lot of crud on the bulb itself, I gave it a wipe with a clean cloth and just turned it on to dry it.

Only a small job, but to me, with my track record, satisfying.

Thumbs Up Geoff
