Can i get this bit off a EGR valve

Hi Folks

i am a newbie and i have a 2008 Range Rover Vogue with a 3.6L TDV8

I have been having problems with the LHS EGR valve not closing or opening properly. I have removed both but the LHS side cooler has a broken valve in the rear coolant pipe. Please see the photo.

Is this important or can it be left out, if i cant leave it out can anyone tell me if it can be bought as a separate piece or do I have to buy the whole cooler section

Thanks

Damien
