2002 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Giverny Green
Oil leak cam covers 4.4 v8

Hi, wondered if anyone could offer some advice?

The previous owner had the cam cover gaskets replaced by a reputable garage, all work receipted etc, but apparently the washers / seals for the bolts do not come with the OE gasket kit therefore were not renewed?

So I have misting/weeping of oil around each bolt head which although isn't a massive issue is slightly annoying!

My question is, can I replace each bolts washer, one at a time, without completely removing the cam covers? Or will removing bolts, even one at a time, affect the gasket seal of the cam cover??

I just don't understand a garage doing that, barking in my view for a few pence more.

I'd do one at a time but I'm not a mechanic!

The old ones go very hard, and the bolt bottoms out with little tension given by the already thinned rubber seal. . Yes do one at a time, they are about £1.50 each I think. Observe the torque setting, or just do up gently tight. Don't need to be really tight!, you are screwing steel into aluminium. 10mm socket is all you will need.

Thanks for the reply - £1.65 each from Landrover so went for some febi bilstein branded ones (16 for £12 delivered).

I have also ordered a new pcv valve which hope to get fitted this weekend or next, one question I do have is that if I remove the oil fuller cap when when the engine is running there is air blowing out, and I ended up getting oil all over the engine covers! Anyway I seem to recall there should be suction from the engine when the filler cap is removed? Could anyone offer their knowledge?

Car has no running issues and no smoke running or on start up etc, just the misting from the crankcase bolts.

Chucking oil everywhere is good... it means the oil ways to the top of he engine aren't blocked...

Actually looking in the engine without the oil cap on - no surprise oil got flung everywhere with the timing chains where they are! Has put my mind at rest!
