Don't know about HD but I believe these people have a good reputation. Might be worth speaking to them if you haven't already.

MR GLOVER...........4.2 or 5.0........when I do 35,000 miles per year........... Towing......... By my reckoning that's an increase of £4240.00 in fuel per year and an extra £200.00 road tax........ That will buy me 2 gearbox rebuilds and a few standard torque converters to boot.

Typical LR; it will always break at the worse possible time. |

Nice idea, but the budget wont stretch to a TDV8 yet, and all the ones that come close to being the right price need 2 x Turbos and 2 x EGR's, which then pushes them 4K over budget. Plus there is no real difference in the fuel consumption, until you get in to the realms of the 4.4's, and they is just too much dosh |

Iirc a guy in Oz got a heavy duty one. IMO rrphil or Mackies transmissions in Glasgow would be your best bet and also the gearbox remap that's available from a seller in Germany would help as it will lock up earlier and reduce wear. At that mileage and towing id say you should be changing he fluid and filter every 18months ideally if not 3 years.

Shipping won't be fun from Oz but then if your towing that is be one id go for it ask the BMW guy if he can produce anything stronger for your application 👍

Are those tyres general grabbers or Pirelli ATR's?

kingpleb, the tyres are General Grabber AT2's, I've covered 30K on them now and they aren't showing any signs of wear and they are very good in the wet, can thoroughly recommend them. I know someone with the same size on an Isuzu pick-up and he's managed 80K with his and they are still legal |
