Infotainment system crash

I have a 2008 SC and the Infotainment system has on several occasions crashed and the faults are too numerous to mention according to the iid tool, the head unit just keeps cycling on and off, if you press the on off button it flashes about every 5 seconds from the off screen to a blank screen the back to the off screen, if you switch it on and have it set to radio the radio comes on again for about 5 Sec then the unit restarts, i have found by trial and error the only way to get it back to function again as it should is to disconnect the battery leave it for about an hour then reconnect it and it seems to the be ok for about 3 weeks then it starts again.

Any help would be good.

Can't take it to main dealer as it is an LPG conversion and the won't have it on the premises.

Intermittent faults are a nightmare to diagnose - if you can't force or replicate the failure, it's hard.

Is there anything different leading up to it - does it happen on cold days - after short journeys etc ?

I would be checking the IID for faults every day to see if they are building up & triggering something - to all happening together.

How old is the battery ? Have you had that checked ?

Also - check all the connectors around the infotainment components in the boot - make sure they are nice and tight & no damp in there

now you mention it, it seems to happen when it gets cold the night before it happens particularly if it is frosty, you think that could be the fault, would the iid tell me if it is the head unit or a canbus problem?

Quite often the faults on the most are caused by the BT unit in the boot. Problems on the fibre optic network cause all sorts of issues.

There is a bypass of the Bt unit which can be done with a biro tube. Have a search there is a whole thread on it.
