TDV8 4.4 Engine Issue

Hello all,
Looking for a bit of advice, noticed a smell of oil fumes while stopped in traffic today, pulled over and when I lifted the bonnet it looks like oil fumes coming from under the plastic cover on top of the engine. No error messages, engine sounds fine and it has only covered 54,000 with full main dealer service history. Any one got any ideas as to what it might be, hopefully nothing too serious!

Regards,
Alan

possibly one of the intake tubes on top of the engine has split. apparently a reasonably common problem a bit like the turbo hoses on the 3.6. there is an updated part available to replace it with. Lift the cover and have a look, it just lifts up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

If not an intake pipe the 4.4 does suffer with an oil leak issue from a pipe on the rear of the EGR! Spreads engine oil all down the back of the engine/bell housing which can get on the exhaust and smoke!

No problem, if it is the pipe on the EGR is it an easy fix?

Not easy no. Involves stripping lots off the top of the engine to get to it... I would check the intake pipes first, then if not them? Put the car on a ramp and see if there is lots of oil over the back of the engine first... Thumbs Up
