Can't afford hotels anymore, spent all my money on the caravan!

Having spent most of my working life in hotels I don't really need them in retirement.

Hotels tend to take a dim view of my kids & dogs so I don't feel overly willing to spend my hard-earned with them TBH. Plus having a caravan means I get up when I want (early) and have breakfast when I want (normally 6 ish), the rules of the house are my rules, the menu is my choice, and best of all, the bar prices in my caravan seem to resemble those of the local supermarket Thumbs Up

Each to their own I guess, I just prefer the less formal atmosphere of my own gaff to that of a hotel. Still don't like towing though. Capabilities are fine (Ex HGV driver) but the boredom of 60mph becomes tedious after about 30 seconds. Laughing

Well said, that's my eldest now at school, so flights are now grossly marked up for us now. Spent a fortune on a couple of nights in a hotel the other week so caravan hunting in the new year, it's all I knew growing up , think the wife realises it makes sense now!

i actually quite like camping (under canvas) probably because I have spent too many hours listening to the rain beating on the roof of a tin tent, I even spent my honeymoon in one.
The aforementioned camping is solo, because even though the kids have long since left home and the dogs unfortunately have gone to hopefully a better place SWMBO likes hotels, so I do as well Very Happy despite having spent most of my working live in them. Geoff

Dragged this to the Algarve last winter because we have dogs and SWMBO won't leave them.
