I signed your petition & know exactly where your coming from. As owners of a Camper & living in France we use Aires de Service almost every weekend throughout the warmer months & think their fantastic. Many of them are free with a modest charge to fill up with water, whilst the more popular ones in more touristic places will make a small charge @ about 8euros/night but in comparison to campsite charges its almost free.

As for the UK, we come over a couple of times a year in the camper & it costs us a bomb most of the time. But I must commend Canterbury council who provide Camper parking at one of the Park & Ride car parks (I think its york road) We always stay there before & after crossing the channel & often stay a couple of nights as the modest charge (about 4quid) also includes the bus into town & back for the whole family as many times as you want.

So a big thumbs up to Canterbury & hopefully other councils will start to take a leaf out of their book.

I must be missing something but if (like me) you tow a tin tent or drive a motorhome why do you need any other facilities. The UK is riddled with service stations for supplies and lay-byes allowing overnight stays. Question

As for local council funding, IMO they have long since lost the doctrine of working for the citizen. Its all about the bottom line and satisfying varying colours of political pressure. The citizen is nothing more than an inconvenience. Whistle 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

The only facilities that we need apart from peaceful & cheap overnight parking is the access to water & toilet emptying facilities every couple of days.
