Can't say much for the skill of the driver, but I'm hugely impressed with the Discovery. The roof and body did a great job protecting the passengers.

That’ll be the “Boron Steel” used in the pillars of the D3 & 4... Strong as hell!

Thats why firefighters are trained to smash the rear lights in where they cut the roof off! Shocked Aparently the jaws of life either can’t or struggles to cut through the stuff! Sad

The airbags did a great job and the roof stood up well
I'm a bit surprised at how the alloys shattered. I'm thinking if you hit a pot hole or debris then the wheel could just crap out on you and cause a major crash...

The Hurst or Lucas tools cut the boron steel easy enough but it is tough going , no the glass is "managed" never just smashed in case it breaks later showering the casualty but in fact the thing we had to remove to help the cutters is the rubber door seals and plastic polar trim , that Censored quickly blunts the blades .
I tell what we don't like though , bloody hybrides , those stupid badges are compulsory and are there to warn us about the high voltage cables potentially everywhere . 2008 MY Supercharged

Did you watch the video ?

It rolled completely sideways - putting a lot of lateral pressure on those 2 wheels - I'm not surprised they gave way -

Don't agree.... The wheels on the side shown had one impact. The vehicle had virtually stopped moving as the wheels had a low speed roll onto its final resting spot. Surely the wheels should be able to take the weight of the car without catastrophic failure?? Previously..

Low speed yes - but the car momentarily leaves the ground before landing on those two wheels sideways at 45 degrees - so thats quite an impact in an unusual direction - not quite analogous to hitting a pot hole.....
