Stuck Ignition Key

After leaving the car standing for the last 4 1/2 months, when I came to start it the auto lever was a little sticky although moved OK. At the end of the first journey, the key would turn the engine off but wouldn't come out of the ignition. A lot of waggling got it free but not ideal, especially for SWMBO.

I checked the Wiki and saw the lubrication (oh er missus) fix so did that this morning. All working well now and also lubricated the gear lever and that seems smoother. However, Craig's comment on the Wiki suggests that lubrication alone is not a permanent fix.

So if it isn't what is? 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

I actually did both Stan.

Liberal amounts of WD40 on the points mentioned in the Wiki and then lots of moving up and down of the fork and all was well.

However, Craig or Joe's quote "Lubricating it all may just allow the whole thing to move enough for your key to come out a few times and then will resort back to your original issue!" suggests the fix is not permanent. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

i reckon the ignition switch should be ok with the ample lubrication....my front door lock was the same and it was difficult to get teh key out without wiggling, put wd40 in and its better than new...

i'd keep and eye on the switch and if it becomes a hassle in the very near future then a replacement might be worth doing. ... - .- -.

At least SWMBO now knows how to lift the gaiter clear and push the fork down to release. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged
