Sounds like a thermostat problem. Needle should be rock solid at halfway.

Hey Joe90,

Thanks for that. It may be the wiring in that case. I'll check it. It was rock solid before the coolant departed!! Confused

Thanks again! Thumbs Up

regards

John

Just pumped most of the water out, conveniently (as I haven't driven it) it was still sitting above the rest of the coolant and refilled with 50:50 mix. No water under the car this morning soi I'll just keep an eye on things and see how it goes its probably not quite 50:50 overall as there was a bit of water I couldn't get too but I don't really need protection down to -32F Rolling with laughter Geoff

Australia 2005 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Java Black

Hey.
No one here has mentioned using 'Deionised water' or distilled water in their radiators. I am currently trying to get a warranty claim thru on my Hella BEHR radiator that has started leaking after 13 months. Always used Nulon and mixed between 33% and 50% concentration.
There's talk of 'stray current / voltage' or using tap water instead of distilled water.. really, how important is it and could this make it fail after only a year? Anyone else had a similar prob?

Thanx Matt Once you've driven a Range Rover, everything else seems 2nd rate.. Eeeek I'm trapped for life.

Geoff,
A little tip from our friend Nino.
The float switch monitors coolant level and specific gravity.
Thus if the SG falls it reports low level, ie when you top it up with pure water even if the level is correct it still alarms.

Mine turned out to be the pipe that runs front to back in the "valley" between cylinders. Got it fixed but it wasn't cheap. Geoff

RaveRover, use of distilled water is primarily to prevent buildup of calcium deposit in the cooling system. use tap water in emergency only and reflush system as soon as possible. Thumbs Up
