On a related note, my insurance went up AGAIN, so I asked why AGAIN. Reply was due to the high number of thefts of vehicles like yours in your postcode area. I have never ever seen another SC (proper that is, not an oil burner pretending to be an SC) anywhere near me, and certainly none actually on drives??????? Tossers. It's all a con. Land Rover Addict

I asked the same question and was told it was because there were so many accidents last winter and a record number of claims. My next question of 'Why has my premium went up if I never claimed' to which I am still awaiting the answer

47p2 - I know exactly what you mean, I pay my money, I never claim, and lo I get the brunt Sad Something wrong with a private company being a part of the system to allow you to drive legally on the road. Land Rover Addict

It's gone up again because of the sheer number and values of claims.
There is no singular reason.

More claims. More ambulance chasing no win no fee solicitors. More crazy priced hire charges for replacement vehicles supplied free to non-fault third parties.

More people abusing the system. Oh, I had a little bump says joe public. Goes to the doctor, gets a letter for whiplash which he may or may not have. Bingo! Easy 2k as insurance firm pays out as legal fees to contest are more, so not cost effective to challenge.

Add to that the fact that the insurance companies have lost a fortune on investments over the last few years as they don't keep your premiums nice and safe. They invest them to earn more money out of them and got shafted when the economy took a dive.

Insurance is only going to go one way over the few years... UP! Shocked

Much as it annoys me, we'd better get used to it.

Had my annual meeting today with my fleet insurance broker. Thumbs Up
Paid in premiums: 63k
Claims: 21k (about same for last three/four years)
Chance of a reduction in premiums next year... Rolling with laughter

All it takes is a few idiots to have spectacular accidents in a Supercharged FFRR and you are in the same group. Risk on average for you goes up even with no claim.

We should stick insurance in the price of fuel - more miles, statistically more risk. Oh and ban drivers under 21 and over 80 Wink Land Rover Addict

I agree with banning people over 80... to be honest over 70 actually. Some old prick yesterday In his Merc was driving at around 85mph and I was overtaking (I wasn't going faster than him... seriously Embarassed ) and he started swerving out nearly crashing into me and a someone In a Citroen. I just gave him the look and he slowed down. Though I don't agree with people under 21 being banned. I was driving at 17 and along with the majority of people that age we were responsible, that was 16 years ago though. It's the select few that think they can drive any way they want.

Basically you have a whole heap of money (few million securely deposited I think off the top of my head) and so you don't need insurance as you can pay out any claim... yourself.

Cheap unless something bad happens and you are to blame.

I had a woman try it on with a whiplash claim after an accident that was her fault. Her witness was her boss who turned up a few minutes later. I just told my insurance company that I would accept no blame whatsoever and would be happy yo go to court on their behalf , within the year they dropped their claims an I got my excess back etc as I went on the assumption that her boss would not be stupid enough to peuger himsef over a fake whiplash.
By the way, the insurance renewal on my other car went up £70 so I rang Aviva todayand they revisited it and it ended up only £4 more than last year (no policy alterations). They always seem to be good when it comes to negociating a price in my experience. Steve

I have avoid Aviva (AKA - Norwich union) like the plague since they attempted to shaft a lot of customers in the coach and minibus industry. Us included.

Put off renewal from 4 weeks again and again until the day before... then increased premiums by 40%. Shocked
Yeah, nice game. We had a great claims history. Insured with them and then went and found another company. Came back and cancelled the policy under 14 days cooling off. Have that you gits.
Now they are having trouble getting back into the coach and minibus insurance market... hmmm... wonder why.

A friend just had his windscreen broken. Avaiva policy. Phoned Autoglass thinking all fully comp policies are covered. Nope, not Aviva direct insured. Pretty much only one not covered. They cut out the middleman and also cut out extras which are included on other fully comp policies, windscreen cover included. He was fuming. 300 pounds for a windscreen but saved 50 pounds on his policy. That's why some policies are cheaper.

Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. When someone actively tries to hold your buisness to ransom you develop a healthy dislike of them. Evil or Very Mad

Hi Fox. The coach / minibus / taxi sector is a different ballgame to the private owner , but I must say if you've had £21K of claims from £63 payments to Aviva, then that seems a significant 'loss to them' (33% payout) unless I'm misunderstanding your figures.
I've used Aviva / NU for years off and on and have to say, I have had no problem with them relating to claims (even when I've been solely to blame - once only!) and with respect to the windscreen ,my current policy states a £75 excess for a new windscreen and £10 for a repair and it does not affect my NCD. I get the best deal I can but still have legal expenses etc (although don't have a hire car option as I have 2 cars). I've had windscreens replaced under NU insurance in the past with no problem so not sure what happened with your friends as I didn't think windscreen cover was something you could opt in/out of on an insurance policy? Steve
