Convert high mileage or not

Was wondering wether it's worth converting my '04 to LPG - it is currently on 136,000+. I do between 8-10,000 per annum.

I would say not ...... Not because of your high mileage but because the cost per mile saving will be negligible only 8-10k miles per yr.

it will cost a minimum of £1000-£1200 for the lpg kit. You will get the equivalent of c.30mpg depending on how you drive. You will also have to pay £50-100 for lpg servicing every year. With petrol so cheap at the moment (99p in Bristol) the difference is not really worth it IMHO. Work it out cost per mile. I currently pay c. 16-18p per mile on lpg.

On petrol at £4.60 per gallon, at avge 20mpg, cost per mile is 23p per mile. Then factor in the cost of the system etc, soon mounts up to a higher cost per mile for the first few years.

Someone on here has done the calculations so search and it should confirm wot I wrote Thumbs Up

And surely £1000 - £1200 for a kit would be bottom of the range stuff wouldn’t it? Recipe for disaster imho...

a good kit (BRC/Prins) would cost you at least 2500, that's a about 2500 liter of petrol. Will you keep the car long enough to make an economical difference? If you do it for the money, forget it, if you do it to put your conscience at ease in that big V8 dinosaur then yes, go for it.
I drive LPG for years now, but I buy my cars LPG converted...and by the way, never have any problem with the LPG.
knock on wood now Robert Whistle

A new BRC/Prinz kit costs about £1000 - £1500 but then you'd have to fit it yourself, it's not hard to do just takes a bit of time....

Here's a calculator to work out the savings...

http://autogasyorkshire.co.uk/savings-calculator/

If I had yours I'd fit a second hand kit, loads come up on eBay for around £400, any 8 cylinder kit will do, cost another £100 to top and tail the job then £50 to get an LPGA garage to certificate it...

If you service your own car, then servicing an LPG install is easy and you don't need any special tools, a laptop lead and some cheap software is all you need...

I'm with Robert though, I always try to buy them with LPG on already as there doesn't seem to be much difference in price these days..

If you have to pay someone to convert it then probably not worth it..... Pete

I have a STAG system which Eminates from Poland. Has run faultlessly for over 5 years. Costs for this is £1200 upwards, depending on "extras" Thumbs Up

To be fair, there aren't really any bad systems out there, they all work fine... some are better made than others and last longer... mines a hybrid system with bits of all sorts but it works great...

Installation and set up tend to be more influential to running well.... Pete

^^

what he said - forget about who makes the kit , concentrate on who installs it Cool

that what makes a good set up - not the name on the ecu or reducer

I bought a 2003 4.4 v8 with a broken LPG system and travelled home (400 miles) from London to Glasgow on petrol costing £110. Got the Prins LPG up and running and travelled back down to London and back (880 miles) on LPG at a cost of £140 giving a saving of around £80 for 8-900 miles. It should therefore be possible to cover conversion costs in 2-3 years and by that time you will have a car which is easier to sell on having already got LPG.
My car has done 180,000 miles and shows no problems running on LPG so it should be possible with this mileage.

Craig - What are you doing up at that hour?
