Tinting 3rd brake light

Having unsuccessfully searched for a clear tailgate 3rd brake light , I am thinking of using some tint spray to make the 3rd brake light disappear a little into the grey paintwork .

Has anybody done this that can offer any tips to how far I can go before the light output is majorly affected ?

Hi Ian

Just read this post - interesting:

I was in the Plod years ago and enjoyed every minute of it.
Whilst on Traffic I had a few colleagues who were very observant like we all were. If they saw anything that was not factory standard - then the tickets were handed out - for safety reasons not numbers.

Look at this way:

Its far better that the Censored behind you hasn't Censored you up the rear ass - as they would say: " I never saw the break lights " - Ive heard this so many times before on duty. ( Just look at Crash for Cash that happens with insurance fraud ).

In the job - we used to have a saying " There's the Halford boys again "

Surely - Its better to be seen than not be seen
after all - why have we now got better LED rear brake lights ( bulbs dont blow and are brighter ) LR do know a thing or too - FACT

SAFETY FIRST and THAT'S WHAT A FFRR IS ALL ABOUT

my advice is do not ever use tinted brake lights - they are one of the best indicators of whats happening !!!!!!!!!

.

I hear you !!
I want a light tint to make it blend a little better hence my question if how much to apply without affecting the lights .
You can buy aftermarket clear ,which would be a step in the right direction) for the sport but not the full fat Sad

Ian, put something on the brake pedal to light the brake lights... Walk a distance away from the rear of your car then look at the intensity of the 3rd brake light compared to the two in the rear of your car...

You will see that LR made a bit of a boo boo and didn’t make the roof light as bright as the car lights from there inception! So... Any tinting you do will exaggerate the issue further imho my friend...

I didn't even think to look at it yet . Rolling Eyes
When I first thought of it I figured I'd change the bulbs to led , then I read they were led allready !!

I just found out I'm working tomorow so I'll look into it more on Sunday and report my findings Smile

Ian, my red cover came off my light and to my surprise inside was a white defuser with red LED’s behind it! If you then put your brake lights on and do the same test as above... You will find the roof light is now of equal strength to the two car lights!

Shocked Craig buddy pics please Thumbs Up
It has been a great source of disappointment for me that the centre brake light is next to feeble compaired with the light clusters, and it would be nice if it could be made to match my Supercharged rears Mr. Green And you know I'm up for getting Stanley out for a stabbing session, only not my fingers this time Big Cry Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
