Hi all
I'm new to this site as I'm thinking of getting a 2006/7 supercharged vogue se, and would like some advice.

I've got a p38 at the moment which now needs to go to a new home. So I'm no stranger to getting my hands dirty.
I've been told that these cars have problems loosing the key sync and the 4.2 jag lump is made of chocolate.
Obviously I take comments like this with a pinch of salt, but I'm wary all the same.
What other things go wrong on a regular basis?

Had my 2006 4.2 for two years with no probs and boy it's fast  The worst thing about being retired is you miss out on all the bank holidays

Depending on what wheels you currently gave on the p38 you can expect a harsher ride in the supercharged .

I had 18" on my p38 and there was a noticeable difference when I went to 19" .
The supercharged comes stock with 20" ......

I fitted 275/50s so my sidewall is now the same as 19" wheels .

Although any sc is a great car , I'd advise looking at the differences between the 06 and 07 .
I got a 2007 on the strength of them ....

Love mine, I went for a 58 plate, great vehicle.

4.2 SC is a great engine, breath taking performance, 5.0SC must be bonkers! Regards

But back in the real world , no real issues with the 4.2 Supercharger at all and widely regarded as the one true bulletproof FullFat and since it doesn't have beem axles ,regardless of what wheels you have on it the ride will be better than a P38. 2008 MY Supercharged

I'd say a beam rear axle has less effect on ride harshness than tyre size .

The supercharged with its different shock setup and bigger arb size has less roll , but that doesn't affect me either on my commute , other than the harsher ride it causes ....

Before all models changed to the supercharged set-up , reports said the has was more comfortable than the sc .

i had a couple of p38's i liked them, but they were so silly to keep running, with all the beeping and silly keycode rubbish. and the suspension.
i had dreamed of the pitfalls of owning an l322 and wondered how much deep water i would be in owning a nwer rangie.... being a fairly spanner friendly land rover owner, i decided to buy one that was already broken, so i couldn't be dissapointed! i got the earlier bmw engined v8. they are pretty good, but getting old now. The jag engined ones though seem to be better in many ways. (some prefer the earlier models' softer seats) although i understand the the non supercharged version, v8 is quite rare. whereas, the supercharged, (SC) is always top of its range, with extras included as standard. fuel costs are better than ever before, but if you are thinking of getting an LPG version, its generally thought of as not engine friendly as they wear out the valve seats. however, the bmw versions, are perfect material. the jag engined car is 'facelifted' inside and out, and is better by most peoples judgements. -of course, price affects the reality though.
but to sum up, you will have a car that looks fantastic, and your tools will become dusty, and all that p38 weekly maintenance and routine 'tricks' will be confined to history. you might, perhaps a afford, new battery, suspension joint here and there, a tired compressor, or a leaky radiator. .... and the ride will be like magic carpet, more so the old p38, will feel tractor like in comparison. my advice though, get one with genuine standars land rover wheels, up to 20 inch. not aftermarket 22's and try to resist chromed accessories. -only my opinion!
I have never looked back. it's light years away from the p38.

So nothing for me to fret over coming from the p38 ive had all the usual faults and foibles and I've pretty much rebuilt it in my ownership.

go and test drive one, its like a breath of fresh air.... its like a real car should be. its precise, light to handle. and stable at speed. its wider stance and extra size, to me make it so much better to drive. - in fact it hard to think, the same company made such a POS as the P38 in the first place!

pourous engine block, BECM, fusebox issues, keycode lockouts. silly locking, ancient engine design, 4 speed box, saggy headlining. -all gone!

it's like your favourite footy team finally going up to the premiership!

i have said before, but i used to first open the drivers door, and then the bonnet, almost every day with the p38,
jeez, i had it bad!
now i have to remember which side the handle is on!

My 07 came with 22" gangsta bling wheels .
It was torture not being able to drive it for the week it took me to put factory 20s on it

It's better again now I've put bigger tyres on , but still not perfect .
If I wanted "sporty" , I'd buy a sport
Nice cars , but not for me ...

I'm all for dual-purpose vehicles , but they're normally track cars that can be driven on the road , or road cars that can be driven on the track .
The ffrr should be a civilized luxury car that can hold its own against more off-road orientated vehicles .
To me , that supercharged badge is a cayenne chaser ... They could have made it so much better at what it's good at instead of racing to the top (that turned out to be the bottom)

Don't get me wrong , a great car that I'm rebuilding rather than selling , but when I read articles on the top 100 quietest cars etc and a discovery comes ahead of the top of the line Range Rover , they made it wrong

i had a plain old p38 and an autobiog 4.6 with polybushed joints, and koni shocks all round. working air suspension, and 18 inch rims. it drove very nice compared to other p38 hacks around at the time. mine had full wood and even a vhs player etc. it was the best out there..... but its a dinosaur now. in fact id even guess its a fossil in the landfill.
i loved it, because i knew how to run it. and had all the tricks in my head keeping it going. if i wasnt spanny savvy, it would have been an absolute nightmare.
i had a disco2 after those p38's and that was a tractor, a massive step back. noisy, gutless. poor turning circle. heavy feeling, again ancient design. (separate chassis)
but even if i saw a p38 looking perfect, and it was super-cheap, i would not buy it, because i know, it will give hassle, and dreadful 'doom' away from my trusty toolbox etc. even though, the limited editions will get high in collectable value over the years, (holland+holland, vogue 50, Linley etc.
im not saying the l322 is the best car by far. every car has its qualities, and its drawbacks, but, maybe the 'green oval virus' has infected me, ( maybe call it, G.O.positive!...) but i really cant think of another more useful car to me at present, and always SUCH a pleasure to drive, in an 'old' 2002 vogue that i drive now. (on LPG)

i'd love to, but, would it be £30,000 better than my 'old' 2002 model... that's the gulf of difference beween the model range. -for that money, i COULD buy 6 more £5000 2002 models, one each colour, one for every day of the week!

more so, would i be allowed in at the council tip with a 2012 version. without people staring!
