Parking aid - LED light on switch is flashing

Hi,

I wonder if someone can advise me of a quick fix for the above. I have just noticed that the LED on the switch is flashing and the sensors no longer beep. There is no Land Rover dealership in Cameroon (the nearest is in Gabon - about a 13 hour drive) and the vehicle is not due a service until April next year (or about 9,800 kms).

Grateful for any advice.

Regards,

Steve

Sad Sad Did you by any chance pack a IID Tool when you shipped it all over there?
Failing that will need a lead like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-Diagnostics-...1705786788 and a licenced copy of http://www.navcoder.com/

This clever program will allow you to change most things to do with the Audio / nav / tv and includes LCM and PDC!

In the PCD mode you can run the system from your lap top and it will show all the sensors and what they are seeing, when you find the dud swap it with one that you know is working, hopefully the problem will move to the new spot, otherwise you have a duff loom. Both common faults, sensors can be had for around £15 and a loom for the rear is about £35.

I have herd that you can put the car in to reverse with the engine off and ignition on ( and handbrake on or bricks!) and you should be able to hear the sensors clicking if they are working, but you do need to have reasonably good hearing Embarassed I found that the NavCoder was fab as it gives you a visual display of what the sensor is picking up, it was just a case of placing the laptop where I could see it and dancing around the car. I discovered that you couldn't sneak up on it, no matter how hard I tried Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

As above, turn the sensor on by pressing the button then go round and stick your ear against each sensor in turn. If you can hear it clicking it's working. The one that isn't clicking is the problem and it will either be a duff sensor or a broken wire.

I think I know which one is not working. The other day I parked near the bank and as there are no car parks in Yaoundé, I had to park on an elevated paving section and as I approached the wall, I pressed the button for the front sensor to beep but was too late as I bumped the wall. The front right hand side of the bumper, right where a sensor is located had been slightly scuffed but I thought no more of it.

How do I get to the back of the sensor? Do I need to raise the vehicle on a ramp or is it easily accessible? I am hoping that the wiring might have just come loose and the sensor will work again. Failing that, I will get a new sensor or two and go to the local Land Rover expert and see if he can fix it. Failing that, it will have to wait util I go to Gabon in April. There are a number of other parts I need to source for the service as clips etc break and bits of trim fall off - there is a small section of plastic in the middle of the tailgate upper that previous owners have tried to secure with velcro and impact adhesive but this has now failed and needs a new piece with clips and the piece of plastic on the side of the driver's seat has broken clips and was hanging off. Annoyingly, the lumber electrical switch was connected to this, so I had to disconnect that as well. The rear right perspex had been "holed" by some individual and will also need fixing.

Are there any Range Rover specific scrap yards around that I might stand a chance of getting these items cheaper than eBay or new?

Thanks,

Steve

I took the car to a garage in Yaounde that has a Paris Land Rover trained mechanic. He managed to push the sensor out of the bumper from the rear and we found two wires had snapped. Not having a soldering iron another garage mechanic simply twisted both of the wires together and then wrapped them in insulation tape. The sensors are now working again.

Thanks for all replies and the YouTube videos that helped to find a solution.

Cheers,

Steve

Thumbs Up that's good news buddy, but I think I'd personally take a soldering iron to the repair before the moisture gets a hold or the wires and corrodes it again, as I believe that you are in a rather humid climate over there. I know that when my Uncle was living in Nairobi, every thing electrical had to be 'Tropical' spec to stop the gremlins, and I believe that it's a lot wetter your side of Africa Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
