Had four new tyres in October last year 275/65/18 General Grabber A/T2, the rears have worn out twice as fast as the fronts and although they still have about 5mm of tread left on them they received 7 (yes seven) punctures on the last off road trip, all minor which led to them slowly going down over several days, two in the very edge of the tread where the tyre places fear to go...

The fronts still have 8-9mm of tread and have had no punctures at all....

They have done over 14,000miles and a fare bit of laneing, they are substantially noisier now than they were when new...

So looks like I'll have to get a new set sometime soon... fancy having muds this time for a change, I won't be doing so many miles now and hopefully they will last a bit longer, there are a couple of 10ply LT ones around, may give them a try...

Now.... how much do I have to chop out to get 37's on...??? Pete

In my experience 37" wheels would require a 6" lift and a fair bit of body removal...... you might find 35's easier

I'm a wee bit concerned about your tyre wear report, is there something up with your rear end Matron?
I've been running General Grabber AT's on mine since I had that funny turn and brought the car, I've done just over 32K on my rears and they are showing no real signs of wear, in fact I'm having a hard time differentiating between the front and rear wear, and the rears are 5K older

Word to the wise, be very very careful in the wet if you do get mud terrains, they have a nasty habit of letting go on corners without any warning, I had a few "new underpants needed" moments when I first had them fitted to the Landcruiser, got used to them in the end, but I would say that they had 60% less grip in the wet than the Falkern AT's that I was running before  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I would imagine it would take a dam sight more than that for 37" wheels, think how big the tyres would be...

Anyway it was a joke the diameter would be 25% bigger than stock and you can't get different diff ratios to sort that out, the TD6 is a bit better but nowhere near enough....

Thanks for the heads up about mud tyres, been driving on them on and off for 30 years so I know what they are like, if you buy the LT 10ply ones they are nowhere near as bad, the tyre is so stiff it doesn't move when cornering, they are actually much better than you would think.......

You should try driving on 750/16 Mud pattern crossplies to know what "no grip" really means!!!!  Pete

I soon found that the Kumho KL71's and wet tarmac don't really work well together But when you think about it the more aggressive your tread the less rubber you have in contact with the ground, somethings got to give.... generally grip on wet corners  Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Or... the less rubber in contact the more PSI so more grip.... look at WRC rally cars on ice, the tyres are half the width of normal ones

The issue is the deformation of the tread block by sidewall bending when chucking three tons into a corner, the sidewall bends too much and lift the tread blocks off the road...

Light Truck 10 ply sidewalls tyres don't flex so much so more grip....  Pete
