Hello. Earlier this week I bought a 2007 Range Rover 4.4 Vogue SE. It's our first RR; my wife has had one one her bucket list for as long as I've known her and after a crappy year for her I thought I'd sell my Audi S8 and treat her to one as an early Xmas present.

Despite 130,000 miles on the clock it's obviously been very well looked after and everything works. It also comes with a full LR Main Dealer service history. While we're not adverse to paying main dealer servicing costs (I've been quoted £550 inc VAT and labour), the indie garage that we've always taken our cars to are very capable and trustworthy. We've used them for years and the owner is well into his Defenders as well as the occasional Range Rover. He knows his way around Land Rovers basically.

Is it worth maintaining a main dealer history on a vehicle of that age and mileage? Will it help it keep some value in a few years when we trade it in, or at this stage of it's life does it matter who services it as long as it's done regularly and by someone who knows what they are doing?

I've never bothered.

IMHO the additional cost of the main dealer isn't worth it for any additional residual value when you come to sell the car - but do the maths

I'd rather take it to somewhere I know & trust

The money we save on the service can be put aside for other RR-related costs, assuming there are any.

I'd agree for the age of the car it's probably not worth it.

Even if you still had a newer one with factory warranty, you can still have them serviced at any VAT registered garage.

I think the older the car and the higher the mileage, the less relevance is Strached to a main dealer service history.

As an example, I replaced all the oils in my car during the summer, so I guess I should really put a slip of paper in the service book to record that, but there are those who religiously do the main dealer trip, assuming they're being looks after better....... Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Hi, and welcome, you do know that the TDV8 is faultless for 130,999 miles, hit 131,000 and they just fall apart.....

The main dealers do an "economy" service that is just an oil and filter change and they still stamp the book to keep FMDSH even though you didn't have the proper service, you can only tell what services it's had by the receipt so it really is a total con... you could buy an FF and all it has ever had is engine oil and filter changes but have a FMDSH....

If I were you I'd find a local specialist (ask on here in new thread) and get ALL the fluids changed...

engine, gearbox, transfer box, both axles, brake fluid, coolant and power steering fluid...

That gives you the best chance to keep it fault free.....  Pete

Here in the fatherland you better get your car maintained by an official dealer cause when it comes for an example to p/x - sell the car - the first thing potential buyers do is looking in the service book.  All my spelling errorz are belong to me!

Just a small point.....4.4 on a 2007, doesn't fit in with either the petrol or diesel of that year does it ?

Hmmm - that's worth thinking about - Main dealer for the oil & filter - Indy for everything else

The term they use is "value service". I had it done once at Shields and they wrote "value service" on the book for all to see.

Yes, it's the 4.4 Petrol Jaguar engine. I thought that was introduced in 2006?

I was looking based on age, price, condition and features; I hadn't thought about NA vs SC as an option. It had to be petrol, that was another factor.

I'd grown fed up of the S8; it's all very well having a car like that but you can't use it fully on the public roads, unless you want to risk your licence or mortality. We knew the RR would be slower in comparison but it's still fast enough. If we really need to get somewhere in a hurry then we still have my wife's very-dull-but-very fast Jetta 2.0 Turbo Sport. Essentially it's a 200bhp Golf GTI with a boot.

I like it even more now it's slightly rarer.
