Classic RR Headlights...

I want to upgrade the standard H4 headlight candles in my classic. Has anyone got any suggestions?

I've looked at Xenon bulbs ltd's website, they do a conversion cable from 3-1 leads but they also talk about HID Ballast which I've no clue about.
I've sent them an email but they're not replying.....

Any ideas gratefully received
Cheers

I have them in my classic Mark... A simple job Thumbs Up

The bulb holder plug plugs into the kit... There is a + & - to the battery and the rest is plug & play so really easy to fit Very Happy

A word of waning though! Cheap kits will give you budget results (like the boy racers you see everywhere blinding everyone) Phillips & Osram do a nice kit, but that costs a couple of hundred quid! Rather than the £40 upwards the cheap ones cost on fleabay... Worth every penny IMHO... Whistle

Any HID conversion is technically illegal as the H4 lamp is not designed for an HID source, only normal bulbs.

Pop over to DEFENDER2.NET and have a poke about as Defenders use the same H4 headlights. There are various upgrades from uprated light output bulbs to new H4 replacements (Crystals) to full LED replacements.

Oddly enough Martin, I was just going over to one of the other sites to see if there was any comparisons when searching....
The more I look the more I think I'm going to go with one of these choices...

I use uprated H4 bulbs in the standard headlights.

It's also worth checking the lamp itself, the reflectors do degrade over time - look through the glass for the silvering lifting/bubbling.

Are there proper xenon upgrade kits for the defender and classic?

I need to upgrade mine and would like a proper xenon bulbs and lens not just a HID bulb kit.

Have got headlamp washers on the car so would just need the bulb to level itself.

That's the way to do it. The only alternative would be Phillips Extreme bulbs.

I did this on my Defender and it was like night & day. I bought HIDS for it but never fitted them after the crystal and bulb upgrades, Didn't need to. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

I would fit the Wipac Clearform lamps, I resisted fitting them to my '94 classic for quite a while, but eventually fitted some, they are a vast improvement even with standard bubs, better again with improved performance bulbs.

I also has Hella 550 fitted as driving lamps in the front spoiler.

There are now some LED options,(expensive) but maybe a little extreme for a classic Regards

An HID conversion has to be self leveling to be legal....... the ffrr gets around this because the suspension is "self leveling" on a good day when it's not throwing a fit Wink So you should be able to fit HID's to a later classic, provided that it has Air Suspension and it will also need headlamp washers to comply with the law Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... If it's for a RR Classic I think the Defeaner LED ones in most LR mags would fit. Road legal as they're not HID, don't need wash systems or self leveller. Very bright.
