2016 Range Rover Vogue SDV8 Loire Blue
Sat nav

New car arrived Monday and yesterday got to see if the sat nav was any better, it is not, a 5 year old with the Ladybird book of roads could do better. Some of the route choices were wrong but understandable but some were just bizar.
Fortunately I expected no less and is not why I bought the car, but come on LR, this is meant to be a top end car and a £99 Tomtom from Halfords is significantly better. letters not necessarily in the right order

you'd think nowadays manufactures would put in the hardware [screen etc] and have a slot for the tomtom nav sd card, then you could buy whatever region card you want ... ... - .- -.

Bought a new AB in September and treated myself to a new Tomtom with the large screen with 'traffic for life' for about £300. The traffic function is brilliant and a must for my 90 mile daily commute. I haven't even touched the RR sat nav. Why can't the manufacturers do a deal with the likes of Tomtom? MY23 D350 HSE

I use an app called "Waze" on my iPad which sits over the original screen on the dash. Gives real-time traffic, roadworks and also finds another route if your original one becomes clogged and tells you how much time you will save.

And it's Free! Bow down

It only needs someone who is fluent in canbus type language and you could reprogramme the original head unit to accept an Android package or similar, or adapt an Android unit to fit and work all the other bits that are in the car...

Anyone know any top notch computer programmers...??? Pete

...or hack the bluetooth connection so you could use an ipad/andriod tablet/phone as a remote for all the FF's functions.
so in theory you could have a tablet in front of the OE head unit and this [via an app] would control everything and then you could use your own nav program.... ... - .- -.

If it's going to be hacked then wouldn't it be better to make the original hardware do what you want it to??

And there is no problem with the legalities as your reprogramming something you own to use software you can buy... Pete

Another vote for Waze - https://www.waze.com

Car infotainment is all moving to be based round our smartphones, projecting their apps on the main screen.
