Engine System Fault message - smoky exhaust - acceleration

Hi All, I'm hoping someone might help guide me to the possible or most likely fault with my RR sport 2.7 HSE 09 model. I drive 43 miles to and from work on the M25 most days of the week. On a recent journey a message came up saying Engine System Fault. No warning lights. It went to a garage who said they couldn't find a problem. It continued to happen. When I turn the engine off and on again it goes. Strangely the car is fine on my journey into work in the morning but the message always comes up half a mile into my journey home. Later in the week 25 miles up the M25 the car had a sudden loss of power and many lights and warnings came up. They included transmission fault limited gears available and a something about the Park Brake. Back to a different garage. This garage made the observation that the exhaust was also smoky. They couldn't find a fault (not sure how hard they looked) and instead put some sort of fuel thinner in it. Of course the same thing happens still now. I have not had a repeat of it lighting up like a Christmas tree but I am aware of a smoky back end and every journey home the engine system fault message appears. The car is then also lacking power with little to no acceleration through 70 to 90mph. Anyone have any words of wisdom for me? Thanks in hope.

If it's like the FFRR, weird error messages often mean it's time to look at the battery, alternator or both. I'm sure the car should be logging any errors, so the mechanics should have let their computer loose on it.

Thanks. Alternator and battery both new. I'm hoping a split inter cooler hose or something similar. Thanks
