Vintage car race crashes

Shocked Shocked
http://devour.com/video/vintage-race-car-crashes/ It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
20 years ownership of Solihull products, ALL GONE NOW, sniff!
Current motor: Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto, 1.4 petrol. Oh so reliable! 7 years now and no problems. Oh, all right then, a leaking shocker replaced under guarantee.

Seeing as they wrecked millions of pounds worth of cars making that film, you'd have thought that they'd have shelled out the extra few quid for colour film Shocked

Reminds me of something....... I know the M25 but a little less crowded Wink

It shows how far the modern racing car has developed from a safety point of view.... Not prefect, as has sadly been shown in a couple of crashes in the last few years, but death is an exception not the norm. I think you'd class yourself a winner just walking away from one of those early races. Hats off to them, but I suppose, sadly, they didn't know any better. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... its sad to see people in such a vulnerable driving position, and the racetrack littered with such devastating obstacles, like trees, and concrete posts, - and people behind......rope! or picket fence.
they gave their lives, just for the designers to tweak things just a little, each time making things safer.
I really enjoy watching the Goodwood Revival races, that looks like a certain 'golden age' of racing.
but from those clips, people (sadly) must have gone home smelling of barbequed 'people'
and the drivers necks must have been made from pure rubber!

It does make you think about the risks and how those drivers muct have been complately fearless.

I also wonder, with all the super-aggressive and very poor driving I see on my daily commute, would we not see a real improvement and some more careful driving techniques if we replaced airbags with sharp objects? How about replacing the steering wheel airbag with a large domed nut, just ready to demolish the breastbone in the event of rear ending someone else 'cos the driver was too busy effin texting to see the traffic stop in front of him. Laughing

^^ Thumbs Up

Think you could be on to something there bud, I know that the roads are more crowded now a days, but the standard of driving has noticeably dropped too. Was wondering why, think you might have hit the nail on the head, super safe cars encourage people to drive badly cos they aren't in fear of loss of life. Bloody Volvo's got a lot to answer for Evil or Very Mad

I have always believed that a year on 2 wheels, with every car trying to kill me, gave me a healthy respect for the road........... maybe they should bring back bull bars and encourage moped bashing Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Yep. I remember here when GM first put ABS as standard fit on their small sedan if the time. No other changes were made to the car compared to the year before. Accident and injury rates: unchanged. Drivers just used the extra safety to drive more aggressively.

Actually,
There was a pukka trail on that, showed that drivers went faster with added safety features
Google "Munich taxi driver abs trial" if you are interested
Of course , just how valid a trial is when it involves taxi drivers, I am nor sure
