2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

Best polish

Good afternoon all I was just thinking that as we are supposed to be having a really bad winter and I was thinking of giving my car a good polish I thought I would ask what you are all using and what you think of it cheers

Polish is only used for removing scratches, swirl marks and minor paint defects, you need a good quality wax after polishing to seal the paintwork. My method for maintaining paintwork would be wash, dry, clay-bar, polish, glaze, sealant, wax. This will help keep the worst of the winter weather from damaging the paint.

Polishes and waxes are a subject that if given to 100 different people would get 100 different replies. My preferences are

Bilthamber clay bar Click

National Motor Products A Grade polish Click

3M Hand Glaze 05990 Click

Chemical Guys Jet Seal 109 Click

Chemical Guys 5050 wax Click

I really like the Armor all shield.

I tried it after reading that WHICH had voted it I think 2nd best on the market . its really easy and fast to apply with no residue . Buffing it off is really easy as 80% stays on the car , so minimal effort after applying , best ive tried in years. Id recommend doing a claybar number first

I use the Meguires 'ultimate' range - wash the car, detail spray + clay bar, then polish followed by wax - results are great, and the stuff is readily available at halfrauds - often on '3 for 2' offers. 2006 (56 Reg) 4.4 V8 Vogue In Bonatti Grey (Gorgeous!!)

It's all in the prep so give it a good clay first with meguires clay or similar and then a good hand polish with auto gym super resin polish this still takes some beating and the new version is so easy and little dust. Then once done top it off with some autoglym extra gloss protection.

AutoGlym Super Resin is way too powdery for me, try the A-Grade I linked to, it's far superior to that s

I have never used a clay bar before are they easy to use or do I risk scratching the paint work ect

More at risk of scratching the paintwork if you don't use a clay bar. The clay is designed to remove contaminates e.g. ingrained dirt, tree sap, bird crap, tar grime etc. from the paint prior to polishing. If the contaminates are not removed you will pick them up on your polishing cloth and drag them over the paint causing more scratches than you had before you started

here is my preferences .... but everyone will have own opinion
*after giving a hosing off
*wash with a new sponge and halford shampoo.... shampoo will do around 30 washes .. i throw the sponges
* claybar .. i use Bilt Hamber medium (1/4 of bar will do a full fat)
*Maguiars ultimate detail to remove swirls
* wax... Bilt Hamber double speed wax (tub will do around 5 full waxes) use it very sparingly, i gave two coats over 2 weekends.

Everyone is different and has own preferences when it comes to detailing/cleans/valets, however claybar is unbelievable and make the world of difference. Some easy videos ref Claybars on youtube and how to use
PS..*alloys i do with maguiars alloy remaining silent when one should be protesting makes cowards of brave men.

If it's too dusty then you are either using the old type or putting it on way to thick, I do my car with it and get 0 dust.

I've also just tried Gtech EXO v2. Seems to be a great sealant and supposedly lasts up to 18months/2 years.

Same as above - give it a good clean, clay (i polished my paintwork at this stage as well with 3 stages of cutting compound but is not always necessary) - then apply the EXO..

No need for any wax's as this stuff forms a chemical bond to the paintwork and beads water off like nobody business.

So far it's looking great but time will tell. My mate did his 18 months ago and still looks great - take shim about 30 minutes to wash the car and it is very shiny when finished. It does seem like the dirt doesn't stick to the car either. Ash

Agreed, i've never had a problem with it.

I wasn't too impressed with their "Ultra deep shine" one though, it's supposed to be a one shot product to replace Super Resin polish and Extra gloss protection in one go. But it's hard work to polish off and it's a pig to clean out of any little stone chip, scratch or where the bumper joins the body, it seems to highlight any imperfection in a dark car!

So for me i stick with Autoglym Super Resin polish, followed by their Extra gloss protection.

If after you've washed and dried the car the paint feels rough when you run your fingers over it, then a clay bar (or clay cloth) before polishing it is a must. It's magic stuff.

Best Polish I have found are the group of guys down the road, they clean the whole FF inside and out for £12, they even crawl underneath to clean it if I've been off road... best Polish I've met, they really do know how to clean a car in Poland..... Pete
