Just joined and looking for an L322 4.4 V8 :)

Hi all, just joined today to help in my search to join the club Smile

It will only be doing about 5k a year so looking for an early L322 with budget up to about 8k. I've seen quite a few and tbh 90% of the adverts put me straight off due to lack of detail etc. seen a couple with high miles (don't mind if looked after and everything sorted) and also seen a few with around 80k on them (would be nice to find one with lpg already done)

Looking back through the forum looks like i've missed out on a few decent ones and no doubt with winter coming up prices will be going up not down, so probably the wrong time of year to be buying now but oh well. Distance doesn't bother me if I know it's worth it and good condition etc but I know a lot of people use the word mint and obviously no idea what that exactly means. I would have put something in the wanted section but I can't post there as a new user but hopefully that won't take me long.

I've read lots of info in the forums and plenty more to read once i've got one sitting on the drive no doubt Smile

Welcome.

Plenty of info on here, which you have prob read already.

There seems to be plenty about. Some better than others no doubt......

I lived in Stone and then Lightwood from 1992 until 2011...... I can recommend Ashley 4x4 in Stafford for servicing.....

Good luck with your search.

that's brill thanks Smile

that would have been one of my questions after purchase, as recommended places for servicing - i've been a company car user for almost 10 years so never had to bother about that for a long time Smile

yup spotted that and got it in my short list thanks Smile

what i'm not sure (as i've seen a couple at that price and spec) is what's the likely of getting (a decent) one with LPG and the rear entertainment at that price? or would I be better with that for now and (depending on how my saving goes) look to upgrade in 6-18 months? (probably would be looking for models around 12k but still petrol due to the low mileage)

If it were me, I'd be getting a nice one without lpg, at the right price, and then having lpg fitted.

That way, you will be able to pick the type of system you want, you can chat with the installer about it, have it installed how you want and have a certificate and warranty ?

It's better than having an older system that might have issues and then have to remove it all to start again.

Also you can run it without the kit first to make sure the car itself is sound....

will definitely take anybody's 2p worth thanks Smile

if I got one without lpg then I don't think I would get it converted as I would never recoup the cost of it, as it will only be doing max 5k a year. i've seen a few but I am looking at 120-150k mileages which makes me think I should be looking for ones with 80k really (i have seen an 80k one with lpg but I wouldn't be getting much change out of £10k which feels a bit steep (has had gearbox rebuild though) and there are a couple at 8.5k with 80k on the clock, but would I be better spending a bit more with one that has had the gearbox done though?

Gearboxes aren't a problem on the petrol ones... the radiator, gearbox oil cooler and pipes are though, at that age, they will have been done or will need doing...

Radiator £150
Oil cooler £180
Pipes £150
Manifold and thermostat £80

If I remember right....

Also PCV valve and pipework, another few hundred quid in parts....

Don't usually disagree with Mark but I'd get one with LPG already, if it runs the same on both LPG and Petrol and doesn't have the engine light on then it will probably be fine... any statements like... "they all do that on LPG" and walk away, it should drive the same and not throw faults...

Buy on condition and history, not miles, unless you go very cheap and sort everything yourself....

Just my 2p... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

I've never had any car with LPG Pete, so have no direct experience of it. Just that when a mate was looking for a 4.4 L322 with an LPG plan in his head, he bought one with it on. Spent loads of time moaning about how it was not quite right here....and there....... it came up with the odd error code and engine light and in the end he wished he'd paid less for a car without and put in the system he wanted fron new.

That said, he was doing like 30k miles a year....

So you'll not get your money back on 5k miles a year..... but if you buy it cheaper without, the difference may only be a few hundred quid against buying one with....

Me - I figured why make a complicated thing more complicated ? so bought a diesel. Not as in keeping with the character of a Range Rover I will admit.... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

I think you may need to have a second look at your figures,at 5k per year you are at aprox £1300/year fuel or £25/week.Maybe it is me but that is not a lot compared to depreciation, tax, insurance, running parts and garage costs I fail to see why you would concider lpg unless you are doing much bigger miles !

it was more of me thinking out loud to gauge if it was worth waiting for one with rather than without.
saying that there is a td6 for sale on the forum which fits everything i need except it's not petrol so no point with my mileage. I do like the supercharger thats for sale as well but not got that amount of cash (yet)

tbh I just want to make sure i'm buying a decent one and not end up with a mess or a bad dealer (been a long while since i've had to buy my own car). i've dug a bit more into that link you posted eariler as it was in my list to go and view and some of the reviews of the dealer on the web have not' been the best (saying that I am fully aware that 90% of the web is negative comments/views of problems etc lol)
