United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black

Just tidied my indoor man room...... At least now i don't have to climb over piles of stuff to use the computer..... I put the TV on the wall a few months back but haven't gotten round to plugging it in until today. Only problem is that that there is no TV aerial or satellite feed to the room, that will have to be remedied, but for now Im working with an apple TV. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

Morning

Thought I'd share a quick picture of stage 1 of my man cave - stage 2 now requires a bit more thought.

As some of you know I live in Poland when I am not here in the sunny UK. My Polish is not great (unless for food and beer) so I normally rely on my wife to translate anything to the builders etc. Unfortunately my wife had flown to the UK and I was just preparing the car to drive over in July when the builders came over with a look of confusion. A quick phone call to the wife revealed they wanted a rough plan for how I wanted the two car garage to look. Out with the ever faithfull paper and pencil and after a quick sketch that Tony Hart would have been proud of I set off for the UK leaving the plans with dimensions marked on with the builders who were now smiling and rubbing hands together - some of the sharp minds on here will see where this is going.

After been in the UK for a couple of months we flew back last week to sort out some bits and see family etc and I was eager to see my garage and check if there would be room for the Full Fat and Mondeo. Admittedly I maybe should have worried when my wife casually mentioned a few weeks ago that the artic delivering the wood for the frame had got stuck in the garden.

I have to admit it looks exactly like the plans .... except Polish builders (an most of Europe) work in metres not feet !!! so my 12' x 16' 2 car garage is more like a 6 car garage Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter 2008 TDV8

for those still dreaming of the man-cave, here are a few ideas... you can build a 'garden building' as long as it detatched from your house, by I think, 5 meters. it can be 30 square metres, of INTERNAL space. and if built of combustible materials, ie wood, needs to be 1 metre away from any boundary. (fire regs) it can have a 4 metre apex, which as Tommy did here. (mine is not as high) &index=6&list=PLB2FCF7E4326E221D makes for a nice man-cave... I built one in thermo blocks, on a poured 'raft' base. for about £5k. this compares favourably against a delivered wood cabin. that to me would have meant it was smaller....(fire regs)
Raft base, was £700 (6 metres) concrete, £300 for it pumped in, blocks were £1500, so that's £2.5k for a structure, plus your brickie costs if any..... then, diy roof trusses, battons and tiles on top, the rest was either ebay found, or general building supplies etc. I used a load of heavy duty pallet racking as my shelving, and benches, -can carry anything, again, cheap as chips on ebay, as its out of company warranty etc.
as you see, mine is built to boundary etc as built of blocks etc.

ring your council to confirm, but this requires no planning, or building regs. if you are a canny ebayer, you can find the French doors, misordered windows etc, locally, and even as I did a whole roof of tiles, (hire a van) and a car showroom floor of parquet wood! for peanuts! mine is rendered outside and in, plastered inside too, and parquet wood floor, with a typical lagged plastered ceiling, so is as good as indoors. this means it can be re-used when im dead, as a studio, gym, office etc. it cannot ever be used to live/guest/refugee etc. some London boroughs, have people that knock on houses, to check you are not housing 'workers'/slaves etc. remember to include the thickness of the blocks, to maximise the internal space to full 30 square meters. dig in an armoured cable,
my wife wanted to grow stuff all up and over it, so I screened it off as in the picture, so you can't see it now as much as when first built.

before you start, tell the neighbours first.

Mind you, that was a lot of work. Wish I'd taken out the centre pillar between the doors, oh well.
