squeak in rear end

Hi all I am stumped as to what is squeaking in the rear end. It sounds like I have dirty old leaf springs. I have sprayed lube in all the joints that look like they move and some that dont. But still no good.

please help.

It may be the upper rose joint on the suspension, I think these fail and sound like an old pram. it's on my "tuit" list.

EDIT: it's on the hub end. from the Wiki: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic27263.html

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon.

Yes the rose joints.

The reason that spraying lube does not help is because the joints have a rubber cover and you cannot get the lube in. Time to replace them as per the Wiki.

One word of advise - even if you think you may get away with using threaded bar instead of the push pull tool per the Wiki. I certainly didn't!!

I have since used the tool for lots of other jobs as it saves on having to take something off the car and put in the press.

Yep, what they said... don't buy cheap ones, genuine ones from Dan are less than £40 each and it's worth getting new bolts, nuts and washers, Also worth getting the suspension set up afterwards as the bolts control the rear camber... Pete

Just done the rear o/s lower rose joint on mine 1 week ago. The noise was so annoying. Get it done at an indy, MD cost me £275 and the part was only £38.50

Shocked Shocked

Yep sounds like a rose bush. Mine was squeaking for a while, it sometimes sounds like an old spring mattress. Quite a cheap job from an independent if you don't want to do it yourself. No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

Mine seems to have developed this "squeaky pram syndrome", but;

a) definitely seems to be at the front

b) it doesn't do it every time I go out, but when it does, it's pretty loud - I was shocked by how loud when I put the window down

c) I cant get it to do it by trying to rock the car

d) it seems much worse over bumps/undulations when going down hill rather than up hill

e) seems worse if steering left

Tried my Indi once to cure it, with no joy - when I tried to tell him about this thread he thought it couldn't be the same problem, because the noise was coming from the front.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I went over the whole front suspension on mine as I'd have put money on it being the front but it turned out to be the rear hub joints... As the front wheel goes over a bump the rear moves as well, you feel the bump from the front and then it squeaks so it appears to be the front...

It could, of course, be the front, the drop links have been known to squeak but I bet it's the rear....

I could get mine to squeak while stationary sometimes but mostly it wouldn't play ball...

Your indie should be able to check the rear joints easy enough, pry bar on the top one, let the wheels hang and pry bar on the bottom one... Thumbs Up Pete

Okay, thanks - we'll see what he says.

So, there is nothing it can be at the front - my son was in the passenger seat and put his window down - the noise really did seem to be at the front Confused

Sorry, forgive my lack of knowledge, but is the "rose joint" the same as the "hub joint" as per posts above ??

Thanks
