Ultimately my wife's Passat still does 55mpg plus on a run and the emission's that determine road tax in this country won't (I'm told by the dealer) be affected by the "scandal", so its still a very cheap and efficient car to run and almost certainly more reliable than any Land Rover product Thumbs Up

I feel sure it won't be long before other manufacturer's are "outed" Whistle

Now here's what I'm curious about:

How successful will VW be in getting the cars back for their recalls, especially in regions where they aren't subjected to annual emissions tests?

The recall will fix the emissions, but at the expense of drivability, performance and fuel economy. I wonder how many customers want that kind of fix? How about those that find the car no longer performs as it did when they decided to purchase it?

True enough , Here unbelievably if you keep your car registered and avoid the attention of John Q Law ( ie keep it tidy ) you will never have to have a car tested for anything , so why ruin it with a crippling software "upgrade" ? 2008 MY Supercharged

What I was wondering is it just VW or is it VAG engines that fake the test? Cos if it's VAG then Audi and Porsche will get a kicking too. It's all well and good saying that you've got the cleanest engine, but having to fake the test makes me wonder if the bar has been set too high and this is only way to pass. Maybe that's why LR don't sell diesel in the states, they know they wont pass so they don't offer them. But as it's already been said on here the LR diesels are made by Ford, got a feeling that they originate from the states too, Whistle I can see tears before bedtime Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... JLR have now released a statement stating they have NEVER faked emission tests like the VAG group... Something i guess Whistle

I thought the derv engine would never get offered for sale in the states because no one buys diesel there! Or am i barking up the wrong tree sir?

I think Audi and Seat are saying their engines are implicated. I haven't heard about Skoda or Porsche.
I think JLR is finally starting to offer a diesel option in the States. Not the most auspicious timing. Whistle

I think the Ford engines would be of European origin. A diesel powered vehicle over here is usually a pickup truck with an engine displacing 5L or more. Small passenger car Diesel engines are not an American priority. In fact, while its now certain VW cheated, the Americans might have been looking so closely to catch them because US domestic manufacturers aren't making those types of vehicles.

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover SE Td6 Zermatt Silver

Faked or not their cars are clean. Recent MOT of an Audi 3.0 TDI Quattro showed pretty much zero emissions. That's not the case with my Range Rovers & Discoveries...

Controversial but was it not the ridiculously strict US Diesel emission requirements put in place to protect the Gasoline powered car Industry in the USA that forced VW to do this (in retrospect very foolish) measure. Lets face it they make cleaner cars than most anyway....

^ MOT's on diesels don't test for exhaust emissions, the test is a simple smoke test. Even on my TD6 when tested recently the meter couldn't detect anything to measure.
Why anyone with a VW etc would respond to a recall to have their car fiddled with when it runs perfectly well and passes MOT's
is beyond me. Any fiddling can only make it worse in terms of performance and fuel consumption.
I shall ignore the recall for the VW.
