Hi guys, does anyone know if the 12S/12N twin electrics (LR Part No:VPLMT0006) will fit a 2002? It says only 2010 onwards in the LR brochure and I have had people say yes......and no!! Anyone really able to give me the definitive answer on this?

similarly have been told the tow bar armature Part No:VUB503960 will fit a 2002 but have been told by another source it will only fit a 2006 (on)! anyone able to clear that up for me? Many thanks.

Well, not a definitive answer but.........

They are ostensibly the same car so theoretically yes. However, it's not quite that simple since there was a major electrical upgrade in 2005/6 where the infotainment went from BMW based to Jag based. Quite how far this went is not immediately apparent in Microcat although the unit which the towing loom plugs into seems to be the same part number up to 2010.

If this unit is indeed the same then the electrical kit should be common from a physical point of view. I just looked at the towing loom on mine (2007) and the part number is different which could be down to mine being 13 pin, not twin 7's.

If it were me I would call Nick at Yeovil Land Rover (parts manager and God of such knowledge) and he will tell you exactly what part numbers you need.

As regards the actual towbar, these were made for LR by Westfalia who list 2 types (these are both removable)
RRDET02 which is up to 2004 and
RRDET04 which fits 2005 onwards.
Same price and look identical in the diagrams but I guess there was a mod at some point. But the key thing is the date - 2005 seems to be a change point rather than 2006 as you have been told.

Again, give Nick the part number and he'll know for sure.

Sounds ominous!! 

Differance is in the exhaust mounts.

Depends on chassis number, LR will tell you which 1 you have if near the change over date.

update: Have been told by LR yeovil that the correct number for a 2002-2005 vehicle armature is VUB 000740 and the VUB503960 is for 2006 onwards and probably won't fit.

So..........Anyone need a brand new towing armature for a 2006 onwards? If so PM me soonest as it is going to have to go back otherwise. its half the dealer price.

Before you sell check the chassis number, as some later 2005 TD6's had the newer TDV8 chassis

I bought a 2006 armature for my 2003 car. It fits the vehicle without issue, but I did need to construct a very simple bracket to secure the rear hangers for the rear silencer. Not sure you should be reading this bit.
