United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Giverny Green

I had my oil changed and refilled with Castrol Magnatec 5W-40 C3 Fully Synthetic about 3000 miles ago. The dreaded rattle appeared about 500 miles before the oil change - and has not gone away in the slightest since the change. My rattle is a constant one, not just on startup. NW060

you can actually turn the solenoids out with just pump pliers used with some protection, on the actual solenoids as they are not supertight. its in a search of 'e39 vanos m63tu proceedure'

edit, here too. (simpler version!) http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/720836/

mine are mouse-quiet at 160k

Just got around doing the left check valve(as you look under the bonnet). Ended up needing to borrow the PO socket for removal. I think he misread the torque settings because I needed to add a 2 ft pipe breaker bar to get it off. No way was it coming off with a band wrench. If it was torqed correctly then I'm sure it would.

Replaced the second check valve since I had to drain the system to fix a leak. 98% of the vanos rattle is gone. Used a standard 32mm socket but thinned the wall about 2.5mm with a stone wheel. Like the last solenoid this one was torqued much too tight.
