Saint Lo France road trip

All booked up for a road trip next Saturday to Saint Lo in France. Longest journey the FF has done since I had it!
Why I'm now starting to worry I'll never know! It's 350 miles (which I'd do round town in a fortnight and not think twice!) but because it's a "road trip" I'm starting to think of what I need to do to prep the FF for the mamouth journey!!!

Think I should consider breakdown cover tho. Not got none at moment and AA is around £160 international I think! Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

I'm sure you'll have no problem, but breakdown cover is always sensible.

Also, check with your insurance, most are OK, but some like to be told you're leaving the UK.

France requires a spare bulb set, a hi viz jacket & warning triangle - I've never been stopped but always worth having them

You also have to carry your V5 with you in the car.

I hope you enjoy it Thumbs Up

Preparation:
1) sort out breakdown cover, unless you speak fluent colloquial French and know the names of any part that fails.
2) get a sanef tag
3) fill with diesel
4) go

Haha thanks guys.

Gonna sort breakdown this week. And will look into the tag! I've read a few posts about them before, sounds good!
Stupid I know but was going to full service the FF etc, but weren't until Dad explained "you do that mileage in a fortnight round town and don't think twice" made me stop and think! Smile Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

I have used this company for several years now and can recommend them. Have a look on their website and there is a link to a variety of European options which costs a few quid extra.

Tel, Check your insurance as a lot of them only cover you third party when abroad even if you are fully comp here... it's in the small print... Ring them and ask specific questions....

Just done 500 miles in mine from Friday lunchtime to last night... no trouble at all...

FF will be fine, just enjoy the trip... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

Ah cheers guys!

Will deffo look at that Breakdown cover and check insurance!! Also gonna attempt to sort myself out with the Toll Tag if it's not rocket science to do!
Quite looking forward to it! Got a week in a little lodge.
Was gonna use sat nav on Iphone. But just had quick look on ebay and they sell the (guess copy) France sat nav disc for £15. I know mine is old and outdated (I guess it's the original 2004) but it's never done me wrong to be fair. Am tempted to try the France version if it will work!

Pete, Matts driving so I'll definately be checking the insurance! Wink Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

We ordered a sanaf tag and it arrived in 48hrs... Don't forget to register it on their website when it arrives Yawn

Easy peasy to order it Thumbs Up

We went on a price comparison site a few years ago and found European breakdown cover by AXA for (this year) it was £94 compared to near £300 by the AA or RAC

Called them out a year ago in France and they were great Thumbs Up

Thanks guys!

Uk breakdown on Vauxhall I use for work is now with autoaid!
European breakdown now with AXA.
Struggling with the sanaf tag (bit late now I guess). Looks like I need to put 39 euro on it? Is it worth it for just one journey there and back?
Insurance all confirmed good to go!
Cheers

I use a company called IC (insurance choice) is only £70 a year and covers absolutely everything repatriation, caravans, trailers etc ...they tend only to advertise online so keep costs down. I go to France 3 times a year and *touch wood* have not needed them yet but always sensible to have. 09 TDV8 Westminster, Mariana Black, Rear seat entertainment, hatch bag and 2 slobbery mutts

Well been back a week from Saint Lo and all I can say is the FF performed faultlessly! 2 "bongs" 1. Low washers and 1. Lo coolent (had never topped it up from day 1 tbh!

4 up, loads of luggage, 100 litres of wine and (if you believe the screen) 28 to the gallon.

1000 mile round trip with Matts heavy right foot all the way and the 11 year old motor was faultless.
Saint Lo was a lovely place. Sunshine all week and Giete was £200! Can't fault it.
Biggest issue was the bloody toll roads. Deffo tag like advised next time!

Kinda torn between south of France or Spain next year!! (Getting brave now!!)

Thanks for all the advise guys!!
