Increase in Fuel Consumption?

Over the last 2 months or so I've noticed that I'm using a bit more fuel than I'm used to. I thought it was my imagination at first, but I'm pretty sure it's not and, if anything, I think it may be getting worse.

My Td6 is probably giving me around 10% less overall. On a long run (admittedly when I'm in no particular rush and the right foot isn't too heavy) it was giving me around 30/31mpg. However, even when I'm trying, I can now only get about 28mpg and, more typically, about 26/27mpg. I think the increase is more noticeable in town mileage and that's probably depressing the mileage overall. Crying or Very sad

I've not noticed any other problems or changes in the way the car drives. Has anyone any ideas or experiences that might suggest something to check for?

Thanks!

In real life, it's a marginal difference. I would think anything from changing tyres, changing fuel brand or putting on a few pounds could account for that !

My own experience is that even the smallest amount of urban driving murders the average number. Remember, even 10 miles at, say, 22 mpg round town will ruin your 'average' even if most of the other miles at 56.666666. Just maths.

If you want to prove this, when you reach the yellow light on the fuel gauge, select Range on the computer and it might show about 50 miles or so remaining. Take it up on the motorway at a steady 55. The predicted range - the number of miles you'll go before empty - will actually increase even though you're consuming fuel. Magic.

summary : it's easy to distort the numbers when 'averages' are involved.

If you haven't already check the tyre pressures. Then Jack each corner and check for binding brakes if the pressures are ok.

Air filter changed recently?

Only other thing.. town Traffic got worse as the Kids are back at school. How long have you owned the RR? 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

Thanks for the thoughts. Appreciate the point about averages and town driving, but I'm taking that into account. I do a pretty regular, three times a week trip that I always get about the same mpg on and it's started to dip over the last couple of months.

Think I need to do a bit more investigation!
