Supercharged versus TDV8 fuel cost comparison table

Copy and pasted from Excel so I'll see how this works.

Interested to see if this rings true with you guys and looks realistic. I personally don't care and love the S/C but it's more of a "prove to the missus" type thing...

S/C figures are correct and a pretty true reflection of what we get out of ours. Missus would get 21-24mpg out of it on a motorway journey.

Supercharged RangeRover

England

Hi Dubbs,

I've a TDv8.

Around town / to and from work - average 24mpg

On a decent run - average 28mpg.

Hoof down - low 20's

Hope that helps on actual figures.

Regards

On an S/C of a similar age to a TDV8 I'd not be surprised if the depreciation drop was more between the petrol version than diesel compared to the difference in the fuel cost. You may only be 1.5k worse off on fuel, but you may have lost way more than that come resale time as a (often thought of) thirsty FFRR petrol is less desirable.

On a new one it's a lot more depreciation compared to the slight fuel cost difference.

Just my take on it...

Echo Fox's comments. I spent my life driving various large petrols and invariably there is a massive hit in depreciation.
Jag S Type R 4.2 SC. Lost 7k in 2 years
Merc E55 Estate AMG. Lost 12k in 2 years
Disco3 V8. Lost 5k in 18 months

And so on. Finally got me a TDV8 which will only suffer mileage depreciation (I do lots of miles) cos the sad fact is that this country is too f Censored ing expensive on fuel tax.

Thinking back to when I worked in Slough, circa 1995, pertol was about 40p/litre. So it's tripled in price in the last 15 years. There's going to come a time when any car which can't do 60mpg will be un-sellable. Until things are that bad we're left with the situation that EVERYONE buying a SH car wants diesel so the petrol variants have to be all but given away.

Don't believe me ?? Well, consider this. I also have a 2001 Isuzu Trooper for wifey's horsey junk / dump runs etc. Does next to no miles so petrol was the way forward for me. Dealer had it 7 months until I mooched on up with a vague interest. Advertised at 3995 (LWB Insignia with 78k on it) which I told him was way over what I would pay for it. He asked me for offers so I offered him a flat grand, by switch card, there and then, fully expecting him to tell be to F Off. He took it. That car was 28 grand new and the equivalent diesel would easily make the 4k he wanted.

The only place I see different to this is London. Plenty of big petrols there, but also plenty of wonga to go with it. And they buy new motors, not 8 year old ones so selling an older car there is not really on.
