This may or may not be the area to post this but my dilemma is simple, I camp a lot by myself and always take a tent etc but I think maybe I could sleep in the Range Rover with sufficient ventilation and just cook from the tailgate, obviously I use the facilities of the site or behave appropriately when wild camping. The question I have has anyone done this or is there a conversion available. Geoff

I slept in the back of mine for 3 days whilst on exercise once. Pretty good in foul weather. Kept the sunroof open on tilt?

I am over 6ft so it was a bit tight at times but make sure you have a nice thick roll mat and u should be fine

lads, before you go any further with plans for sleeping in a rangie with roof ajar, consider that you MUST have ventilation beneath the area of sleep.
The cab if sealed, will fill with heavier, foul air, and you will die. you need to ventilate by say fitting a large removable grommet(s) in say the wheel well for heavier foul air to pour out, whilst fresh air comes in from roof. otherwise you are playing a dangerous game like sleeping in a 'bathtub' filling with 'drowning' water (foul air) etc.
foul air is completely breathable, but has no 'goodness' ie oxygen in it. you die from your own carbon monoxide poison.

caravans have to have floor ventilation, for this exact purpose.

I am thinking seriously about a roof tent and maybe some kind of slide out gally that could be put into the back for camping trips but i guess you are thinking of something simpler , sound advice about a floor drain though

Yes, very much a roof tent.

There are some, supposedly, excellent lightweight roof tents available these days which would make getting the thing onto your roof (and off again) much easier.

What always bothers me about these things is they're great for sleeping in but don't resolve other issues such as keeping clean or where to piddle when the beer to blood ratio gets high. Wild camping has never been much of a thing here, so for ease why not buy a good secondhand tiny Eriba Puck caravan? There's plenty around and they're easy to store, plus one will give you a toilet and in some cases a shower in a rather small footprint. Or is the lure of being under canvas / polyester too much to forsake?  Si. <This is my name.

There is another post where one of our forum members has converted his FFRR into a travel sleeper. Have a dig around it seems to work well for him  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I made a simple false floor in the back of mine (Rear seats out to fit my camping gear).

One of the best sleeps while camping ever, just so quiet and peaceful in there....or it could have been all the walking and hunting along the river during the day....

I didnt leave any windows open etc. I doubt within the 8 hrs tops that you sleep while camping that you can pull enough air out of the big rangie to cause issues....2 people in a small hatchback maybe
