Island 4x4

Has anyone ever returned anything to them?

I returned the two faulty mirror glasses i bought from them. I dropped them off in person as i was passing, and they said as it was an internet order they'd do a refund to my card, seemed fair enough. 2 weeks later i've still not had a refund.

They don't appear to reply to emails and after about 20 min of trying to get them on the phone they've told me it'll be another 10 to 14 days for the refund to be processed?! So that'll be a month to get a refund out of them.....

They seem pretty efficient at sending stuff out, but wondered if this is a typical experience with them for returns?

No i'm not overly impressed with it.

If it's a one off and they've just had a couple of people on hol or something, i'd let them off. But if it's the norm with them, it puts me off buying from them in the future. They might well be cheap, but if it means virtually no come back when things go wrong it's not worth it.

I think i paid with paypal, so looks like i'll be putting a claim in.

Yep I've also given up on them, good prices but never respond to orders. Much easier and satisfying to go some where else.

I wont use them again. Order Brake pads replacement parts and discs and the sensor was smashed on arrival as it was in the same box as the discs. It's not a lot of money but I got nowhere with them.

I mean don't get me wrong any retailer or service with make mistakes or have problems from time to time. It's how they deal with the issue that makes the difference.

I've started the paypal complaint process, perhaps that'll give them another prompt for a refund. I'll give them until tomorrow evening to respond then escalate it to a claim. Hopefully that'll do it.

My experience of Island is similar to Paddocks. If the order is standard and all goes through ok, then everything is fine. If you need to get hold of them, then they are easier than Paddocks, but not that easy. If the order is not in stock, they take a while to tell you and also a while to refund. Like Paddocks, they also stock a LOT of Britpart stuff, but they are clearer than Paddocks on the branding of what you are buying - you still have to be careful in order to avoid that tat though.

On the plus side, i did order a FPR for the disco from them (genuine), but they only stocked Britpart gaskets (i think, may have been o rings for the block) i put in the order note that i would like and would pay for a genuine gasket and could they order that for me at the same time as the FPR and update what i owed them. They just stuck the genuine gasket in the parcel and never charged for it. Pennies, but a decent gesture.

Yes we can supply Genuine, OEM, Britpart, Allmakes, Bearmach

I'll be honest i sometimes may not be able to compete on price with some aftermarket parts as our turnaround isn't great enough to get the better purchasing discount as say what Island 4x4 would get, i'll not be far off prices if not matching most of the time though Thumbs Up You can paypal direct using - www.paypal.me/duckworthparts

I just don't understand why anyone would want to fit aftermarket parts, it's been proven numerous times that most are of inferior quality, poor fitting and don't last the time genuine parts last. Yes LR parts are expensive...but they last longest and fit first time.

Well it depends I mean there is expensive and there is EXPENSIVE! Shocked

I buy a lot of stuff from my local dealer tbh but island came out the cheapest and they're fairly local to me, it's put me off using them again though.

It depends - if you can find the company that manufacture for LR and somehow buy the same product, but not in a LR box, then you will often get the same quality at a lower price. I.e. Latest example for me - Island4x4 sell airbags for the D2 rear suspension - these come in the dreaded britpart box, but they are actually contitech (sp?) bags, same as supplied by LR, at a much lower price than you would normally get them from LR directly. If i cant identify the OEM though, i will buy from LR to avoid the poor quality lottery.

Well no response to the paypal dispute. So i've escalated it to a claim. Will see what happens with that.

The issue isn't really about Genuine parts or Pattern parts, it's about Censored poor customer service and a complete failure to deal with the issue when things go wrong.

I suppose if the paypal route doesn't work out i'll be going along the lines of sending them a recorded delivery letter demanding payment with in 7 days, then small claims court.....
