Simple really, planning to drive down later this month for a few days away with SWMBO’d... Can take 2 or 3 days out to drive down... Anyone done this? Any advice please?

or you could go via geneva, through the mont blanc tunnel, turin and down the coast to cannes.. ... - .- -.

I did it a few years ago (Marseille rather than Cannes but same thing really) - two things learned:

1. Take your time
2. Don't go anywhere near Paris unless you actually want to go to Paris for a stopover


It's easily done in one long day with two drivers, or two days otherwise. Graham

A16 and A17 lot of roadworks going on, why don't you fly down and rent a car? Lot quicker and more comfy and probably cheaper. + no risk of running in to angry farmers on the main roads.

They can save you lots of time at toll booths

I have done this trip several times.
Dijon is my prefered overnight stop. Plenty to see early evening and good choice of places to eat.
Good range of budget hotels.

I used to do that trip every year, never anywhere to park when you get there.

Done it quite a few times, usually break the journey at Dijon. Will be much quieter at this time of year as the French have all gone home! Possibly

The stopover location is flexible, but i would reckon that Reims is a little north and would make for a long second days driving!

If you want wind in the hair driving then you would be best taking a few more days and some back roads and tunnels into the Alps. The autoroutes are a little souless and more of a means to an end. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

We did this a few years back (to Marseille) - Was really good fun in a 2 seater convertible (we actually planned to camp but after one night ended up in hotrels). Spent a couple of days in a delightful little town called Sete.

We drove down via Millau - essentially following the route the Top Gear guys took - including some terrific windy mountain roads on the way back! One of the best trips I've ever done! Enjoy!!!! African Bush Junkie ... in London!
