I did it a few years ago (Marseille rather than Cannes but same thing really) - two things learned:

A16 and A17 lot of roadworks going on, why don't you fly down and rent a car? Lot quicker and more comfy and probably cheaper. + no risk of running in to angry farmers on the main roads. |

Because we have a sports car, no kids and I have always wanted to do it! Time with just the two of us enjoying the road in a convertible... What more can I say? Got to knock it off the bucket list! Was wondering if it's better driving down through Switzerland, through the Alps? Or if it is just as pretty sticking to the French side? |

I used to do that trip every year, never anywhere to park when you get there. |

Done it quite a few times, usually break the journey at Dijon. Will be much quieter at this time of year as the French have all gone home! Possibly

We did this a few years back (to Marseille) - Was really good fun in a 2 seater convertible (we actually planned to camp but after one night ended up in hotrels). Spent a couple of days in a delightful little town called Sete.
