Oil usage 4.4 tdv8

Back from 1500 round trip to France, though I would check the oil level, it seems that the electronic gizmos think I have used some oil. 2 levels on the electronic stick, that's not saying it was totally full before we left but it was a few weeks back. Topped it up and it took 250ml to get it back up.

The 3.6 never used a drop!

Does everyone else have to top up the oil every so often? I don't mind topping it up its not a problem, the mrs car uses a litre every 1500 miles Rolling Eyes but the 3.6 was a lot less thirsty! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Baltic Blue

Have done 6k miles in mine since November. My miles included towing / town and cruising. The electronic dip has gone down half a notch. I suspected this might be due to the need for the turbo drain pipe but have only seen smoke twice in the last year and you don't need much pool to create a cloud burst so am putting it down to acceptable consumption.

I would say 2 levels on the dip in 1500 miles doesn't seem to be 'normal' but I am no expert. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

250ml seems pretty reasonable.
Your engine is very powerful, do you give it a bit of a thrashing from time to time in the way of loading it up on a good climb?
Glazed bores will pass oil.
I hate seeing people with diesels leave them idling for long periods of time, mater of fact I hate diesels all the time.
Great way to glaze the bores leaving a highly tuned diesel idling, shut the sodding thing down if you dont need it.
The 3.6 is working harder to haul its bulk around than the 4.4 is.
Diesels like to work.

It's probably more like 2 levels in 5000 miles, had done 34 when I picked it up, just put 250 ml in so 50ml per 1000 miles, appx

Gets loaded up all the time engine wise with the tin tent and occasional right foot action. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

I've never had to top up my 4.4 TDV8 in about 25,000 miles, though at the two services in that period the oil would have been changed.
I don't know whether this is relevant to diesels, but when I used to take motorcycle holidays in France I burned more oil than doing the same mileage in Scotland. I put that down to higher temperatures and perhaps that the bike was running all day, and maybe at higher speeds. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Nearly four years now mainly towing, never topped it up, in fact have to tell the garage not to supply top up oil at the service.

Also only RRs since 1988, but had one before that.

Don't hear many complaints about oil usage... And have not topped mine up since November's purchase...

In the cars defence I did check it cold......

Have just checked it warm and it was reading a segment higher than when cold....so one segment used up in 5000 miles.

Which would equate to 3 segments less than half the dipstick per oil change. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
