I have thought that but it is fiberglass , it's black from the exhaust yet it has just appeared and they use fiberglass in the final muffler , or at least I think they do . 2008 MY Supercharged

It was a common problem on Ford's when the baffles fail in the exhaust it starts blowing the fibre glass wadding out of the tail pipe.

Basically you need a new exhaust silencer, you can pull out the fibreglass with a hook, but chances are you wont get all of it out, it risks restricting the exhaust flow and even if you get it all out it wont be as quiet as it should be.

Go for a decent custom one as it will be much cheaper and should last longer and probably save some weight over the massive standard item! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Custom made (lighter) ones will probably be louder - might get boring on a long trip. All that wadding is what adds the weight.

They all appear to be stainless though, so a used one is an option. Have a look on the pipes you'll see some crimped marks on them, this is where you can cut them in order to fit replacement sections. Land-Rover (and BMW) do sleaves for joining sections together.

I have now found where it's coming from , the perforated metal inside the end pipe under the stainless steel finisher corroded away at the bottom presumably where water might sit and the fiberglass is from the sandwedge of the two layers . Hopefully I can just get the final bit of pipe .
Irony of ironies it's going in on Thursday to have the front brake pipes done and the finishes checked on the exhaust and I need the bit underneath the bloody things .
Dont want to make it louder either , I like the peace and quiet despite the full roof rack and Cooper Zeons . 2008 MY Supercharged
