That's right, but the 'retest' is just a visual inspection. ie. the tester just glances at the car to see if you've removed the offending article from the windscreen. So they fail it, when you go back to collect the car they tell you to take it out of the screen. They (might) check to see if you've done it and print out a pass certificate.

Safer trying not to speed

This thread ran on a bit more than I intended as I was just sharing my positive experience with my local councils MOT centre. I have to say that the experience I have had at dealers has always had me worried that a fault, which gives them work, is not genuine and yes I know I can appeal but lifes too short. So if the council had failed the car I guess in a perverse way I would have been pleased as they would have discovered a genuine fault.

Also, in my case, I booked only the day before and they took less than an hour.

You can also use other marques franchised dealers if they do their own testing. You still get the valeting and collection/delivery, but as it's not their marque they're less interested in doing actual work on it.

Not really, if you're not speeding you don't need a warning for speed cameras.

Whether you deliberately break the speed limit or do it inadvertently it still trying to avoid getting caught.

I thought speed cameras were only fitted at accident black spots, so a detector would warn you of a dangerous bit of road, irrespective of the speed.

At least that's what they say....
