Over the last couple of weeks, I have noticed my tail lights misting up, after washing the car at my mates today, I whipped them out as the n/s was fogged a bit, but the o/s was wet inside to the extent that when I shook them upside down, there was about 2cm of water collected in the bottom.

Had a go at drying them out with a hair dryer which worked quite well, put them back on the car, and within about 2 mins, the o/s had fogged up quite bad again, but the n/s seemed ok, just a tiny bit in the very top left corner. I'm guessing the seals must be broken slightly.

Anyone have any ideas how to reseal them and stop them from fogging up again? Is it a case of running a bead of clear silicone round the inside edges of the tail lights?

Are the breathers clear? ie not full of spider webs? 

mark , i have the same problem on my near side light..i've researched and it seems there are three solutions,

one, drill a hole on the bottom of the light unit to release any water in there.
two, take light off and dry completely for a few days then reseal with clear silicon.
and third, buy new s/c lights of ebay and resell yours [after they are nice and dry]

btw, i drilled a small hole in mine and it has helped quite a bit..this morning theres only a little misting at the top of the light.. ... - .- -.

Dan - yeah mate, all the breathers are clear.

Scarey - I was thinking of drilling a tiny hole in them, checked this morning and they're not too bad. I'll take them out again and leave them next to the radiator for a while I think, then silicone round them if they stil mist up.

Also, won't be buying SC ones for it, I'm not keen on them. In fact, I think I prefer the orange and red against the green paintwork, might be persuaded by red & clear though. 2006 Mercedes CLS

m44k, if you bring the light in doors and dry it then take it out side, as long as theres mosture in the air and its colder outside then inside the misting will happen...as you said it was better the next day, thats due to the temp evening out, the main thing is to try to dry out as much moisture as you can, then leave it to cool down, to find 2cm of water in a light would suggest that there is a leak or water is finding its way into the light someware.. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.
