transmission failsafe prog + no cruise control

Hi guys,

I know a lot has been written about the infamous transmission failsafe prog message. I also red various topics about this issue (especially: http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic15834....n+failsafe)
Yet I have the following which may ring a bell to some of you.

Lately I get the transmission failsafe prog error and the amber brake (!) sign lights up in my dash. Usually this happens while cruising on the highway. I do not touch the brake and am not driving on cruise control. Just using my accelerator to drive along with the other traffic.

The amber warning sign usually disappears within minutes (sometimes seconds). Today I also noticed that I was not able use my cruise control when the amber warning sign was gone. When I pused the cruise control I/O button I saw the green cruise control sign come on in my dash but within seconds it automatically went off.

All comms comes up with the following:
ABS: Permanent brake light switch
Transfer box module: Noise on actuator signal
Instrument pack module: Transmission interface bus fault
Engine controle module: 1. Engine cooling fan control fault. Last occurrence - maximum signal 2. Cruise control/brake switch A circuit fault. Last occurrent - maximus signal
Air suspension unit: Can Bus fault
Tranmission: Interface Bus fault.

So 2 weeks a go I got several messages (Air suspension inactive, HDC inactive and tranmission failsafe prog). I restarted the car and all was fine. I have had no problems with the air suspension or HDC since.
2 months ago I replaced the battery with a brand new varta silver dynamics 110Ah. Furthermore I do not think there is a battery problem since the car always starts fine even after a week of no driving. When I drive I usually make long highway trips.

I have the car since January I couldn't find anything about a tranmission service (fluid + filter) in the service book that came with the car. The car has just passed the 170.000 KM (105K miles) but the gearbox shifts fine and smooth.

So thanks for reading this far.
Anyone here that can point me in the right direction? 2002 L322 V8

So, removed and cleaned the connector with some contact spray... Then applied some wd40 to the brake switch inner housing.. Haven't had any fault since... (driven her for nearly 5 hours since).
Hoping this is it Smile -for now.... Thumbs Up 2002 L322 V8

Pietertje, the transmission service is something that I would sort out soonest if I was you. I had some issues with transmissions (not just my 4.2) in the past and it is no fun once it goes wrong.

Glad the brake switch fix worked !!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Stop it, my heads big enough.... Rolling Eyes

ebajema, don't think there is anything wrong with his transmission, that fault is a result of the brake light switch error.. can't hurt to get the fluid changed though... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Pete

And don't forget this quote from ZF re the ZF5HP24 box you have

The design specification of the 5HP24 requires the use of Esso LT 71141 and is filled for life. There is no alternative or equivalent oil, Esso is the only supplier of LT 71141. Under normal operation, the oil is changed after 10 years or 100, 000 mls.

Although it is now sold under the Mobil brand.... Pete
