Anyone got a spare BCM module in the Manchester area?

Hi all

As the subject says does anyone have a spare BCM module (the one under the passenger seat) in the Manchester area that I could borrow just to prove or to dispel the theory that I have a faulty unit. Ideally from a early L322

Could more than likely swap the unit and test my car while I'm there

Matt

Hi Pete

I'm having a problem with the servotronic valve on the power steering, when I start the car I get about 10 seconds of perfect steering then the BCM is cutting power off to the servotronic valve and the steering then becomes very heavy. I have replaced the valve with a brand new unit and no chance. The BCM is logging a fault for a short circuit on the valve however today i have ran 2 brand new wires from the BCM directly to the valve to rule out problems with the loom but the issue still continues. I have read on loads of BMW forums that the BCM module can be faulty and cause this issue but without a spare working unit it is hard to test this theory and it's an expensive part to replace on a guess.

Matt

Well your very welcome to drive down the M62 and I'll pop mine out for a test, or if you can do without the car for a few days you could send yours off to these people for testing...

Matt
I need to replace my BCM too and I got a good price quote from Dan. However, I was put off by the need to re-initialise the new BCM to my car, and I was told (by GAP) that my IID tool couldn’t do it, and that I’d need to go to a dealer/specialist for them to do it: +/- 1 hour’s work I was told. And they are few and far between in my neck of the French woods ...
Can you tell me please how you managed to “initialise and program it” - exactly what you did and how you did it? Bow down
All info gratefully received!
Many thanks Thumbs Up

Hi Steve

Yes you do need to reprogram the new BCM as the brand new one comes blank from the factory. I used my faultmate extreme from blackbox solutions as it has the ability to fully program all the cars modules even brand new blank ones. The BCM doesn't store the vehicles VIN number or mileage data so it's possible to just plug and play the old one then write your vehicles settings to the new unit.

When you program the new unit you have to tell it all the options that are fitted to the car, the BCM unit basically controls pretty much everything that isn't powertrain or lights and it interconnects all the seperate ECUs in the car. When you fit the blank BCM you can still start the car and drive, you will just have loads of options and systems that won't work until it is programmed. One thing to note it you cannot just download a copy of your existing BCM setting and just write it back to the new one. Land Rover initially fitted GM3 V4 BCM units to the L322 supplied by BMW however over the years they upgraded these to GM3 V10 BCM units and the 2 configs are not interchangeable and have vast differences in there coding. You have to enter all your settings manually in to the new unit.

Everything appears to be working perfectly with the new BCM I have had to make a few little tweaks to the config throughout the day as when I've been driving ive noticed things not responding as they would normally but a quick tweak with the faultmate and its sorted. The vehicle only has one issue now since the new BCM, when I try and wash the windscreen I get one quick squirt of washer fluid then the pump stops, I can repeatedly press the washer button to get more fluid but normally it would just spray until I let go of the stalk and th BCM is now logging a short circuit on the washer pump so I need to work out what is causing that.

Hope this helps
Matt

Yes, thanks Matt, that’s very helpful. Thumbs Up
But it has put me off attempting to do the job myself – I guess I am just going to have to swallow pride, find someone around here with the right equipment and knowledge who can do the necessary … and pay the price! Actually, the main problem will be finding a specialist (or dealer) I can trust to do a good job. As I mentioned earlier, there isn’t much choice around here! Big Cry

However, I think I can help you with your washer problem: obviously after the first squirt, the washer fluid is spraying down the wires and straight into the BCM, wetting the contacts and causing the short-circuit … Rolling with laughter Mr. Green
Cheers!

If anyone needs a BCM I have a used (but fully working) one that I took out of my 2002 V8 Vogue to repair my faulty indicators.

Turned out to be the LCM instead but you can not send back the BCM Sad

Wouldn't want much for it if it helps someone out on here

Hi!

Is the spare BCM still available? How much would you want for it?

Cheers

Carsten
