L405 auto headlights

Hi,
Does anyone else find the auto headlights a bit slow to dip when an oncoming vehicle is detected.
I've been flashed a couple of times (if you'll pardon the expression) by other drivers who think I'm inconsiderate.
Thanks.
Tony

I find them generally quite good, but as you say, not perfect - there are a few times I've felt slightly embarrassed at how slow they reacted.

I have them turned off. I thought they were awful on my L322. I don't think I have even tried them on my L405. I might turn them on now I hear they are better.

Good old JLR Laughing Whistle Bow down

Drove my brothers new Transit Custom thing last week and that got spooked by reflective road signs Laughing I think everyone within 2 miles thought i was the police! With the full beam flashing on & off constantly Shocked

The L405 ones are definitely more responsive than the L322.

There are two different sensors for the L405 which depend on whether or not you have traffic sign recognition and/or lane departure warning. If you have neither of these you will have the same sensor fitted to the L322 albeit with slightly improved software.

Yes, the auto headlights are a bit slow to react.

I stopped using them because of this.

Also, you dazzle people who are coming out of side roads.

However, I get flashed by plenty of people even when using dipped headlights.

The xenon headlights are very bright and, being fairly high up, they tend to shine into other drivers' eyes.

No.
The lights are working perfect.
Do you have something in front of the sensor ?

I've been pretty pleased with mine so far. I did get flashed the other day though - it was a motorbike with quite a dim dipped beam.

I've not found it easy to turn them off to be honest - need to read the manual on that... 2024 Range Rover P550e AB

I've used both. Neither are any good TBH. Any automatic system is going to be too slow to react regardless of sensors, software and so on. It's reactive, not proactive and thus where auto-dip of lamps is concerned, not fit for purpose.

The HBA function does not see cars at side roads, cyclists etc, Fail. Nor does it see oncoming cars by seeing their light beams BEFORE they come into full view (which is when you're supposed to dip down) Fail. And it doesn't see the backs of cars in front until it's too late and you've lit up the car like day. Fail.

By the time HBA has reacted it's mostly too late, which upsets other road users. It's the modern equivalent of the ignorant driver of old who never dipped down until flashed. Only now it's with HID units as well.

High Beam Assist. The wrong half of an answer to a question that nobody ever asked. Rolling Eyes
