Side lights and indicator position

Hi there.
Some of you may already know this.
I spotted that my NS front and rear side lights were on. I'd never seen this before and couldn't turn them off. I tried the light switch, turning the ignition on / off, starting the car. Then I noticed the indicators were on.

left indicator puts the NS side lights on and right indicator the OS side lights on.
Could be useful.

just thought I'd share in case it helped someone out.

I believe this is quite common even amongst other marques - they're called parking lights ISTR Thumbs Up

Lots of cars have it. The idea is if you park at the side of an unlit road you can put the indicator stalk to the off side (rather than the kerbside). So your battery doesn't get such a hammering as it only has to power two lights. 2009 on ones have LED lights i believe? so running all 4 lights probably doesn't draw a lot anyway.

Technically in the UK you're obliged by law (with regard to cars) to leave your lights on when parking on a road at night, if the road has a speed limit great than 30mph, or your're parked with-in 10 metres of a junction. Unless there are marked parking bays. All vans over 1.5 tons (so that's basically anything bigger than a car derived van, so therefore all transits, sprinters etc etc) are supposed to park with their lights on even if the speed limit is below 30mph. It's seldom enforced though, and even if you complied with it, you'd likely have people knocking on your door all night to tell you you've left your lights on!

Also at night you are supposed to park your car facing in the direction of travel for the side of the road you are on. John

that's right, but again, few people actually do it.
