There is NO excuse for the coach drivers actions! Plod would have something to say about using your vehicle in that intimidating manner!

Rule 268 of the Highway Code has this to say about undertaking: 'Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake.

I'm not defending the coach driver., he's a fool.. I'm saying frustration at an idiot sitting in the middle lane made him do it.

The Highway Code is not the law - it's also full of contradictions on this point - I've been to court on this one - and found not guilty - it's that last point in the quote that makes all the difference - if you move to the left with the intention to pass, then you're liable for a Careless Driving charge. However, if you're in the left hand lane & maintain your speed in congested conditions, then that's OK. "Undertaking" is not an offence - it's evidence of Careless Driving. IMHO it's the intentional drifting over the white line that is the issue here - his subsequent hand signal makes it clear that that was an intentional manoeuvre. I would be sending this to the coach company - as the hand signal reflects on them. You could consider sending it to the police force covering the stretch of road concerned - but it's a risk - as staying in the middle lane when it's possible to move to the left is also evidence of careless driving. You can make a defence that lane 3 is moving at around the same speed - but the counter is that if everyone moved to the left, then lane 3 would be clear & flowing.... |

The coach driver is trying to get across to a gap that doesnt exist - he is using the size of his vehicle to try and "create" a gap that isn't there. I travel on the motorway almost every day and see this all the time. People forget it's mirror, signal, manouver - not manouver, signal, mirror.
