Just been sent a video of an item that has been picked up on the complementary health check whilst they have the vehicle for the brake hose recall.

Will be having a look when they return it, but I haven't noticed anything on the drive and did look at the brake reservoir at the weekend and the fluid was dirty but not low - decided to get them to replace the fluid whilst they had it in.

Anyone had anything similar on their 3.6 TDV8 Regards

Given the amount of it, i think it's unlikely to be brake fluid, as with that amount of fluid loss i wouldn't have thought you'd have any brakes.

Should be obvious if it's diesel, as diesel has a fairly distinctive smell, the car would stink of it.

I think i'd take that under tray off and wash it all down under there with some engine cleaner, should become fairly clear where the leak is coming from after that.

Power steering fluid is a possibility, is the steering ok?

how tech has moved on...getting a video from the dealer of a possible fault is excellent.. ... - .- -.

You would have thought that they would be able to tell if it's diesel or not, as you say by, by the smell.

My exact plan is to take the tray and clean everything up and hopefully it will become apparent.

Knowing my luck it will be returned very last thing and I wont have the time before having to take my lad to football training.


@Stan - yep, i was surprised to receive and email with a link to the video, but like it. Also be interesting to see what else they have found, as was mentioned at the start. Regards

Managed to have a look. Removed the trays underneath and there was clear evidence of a small oil leak that had been there for some time. Laying on the floor and looking up into the engine bay on the drivers side initially didn't show anything but then the beam of the torch caught something glistening very high up on the engine. From above worked out what I had seen from below,

Further to the issue of the leak I found the source of the problem yesterday.

Was removing drivers front strut in readiness to replace once part ordered today and notices that the undertray had a fresh wet patch. Decided to remove the inner arch linings to get a better look at where it could be coming from. It was evident that it was from the cam cover area (just below the bolts in the pic above) and was deffo diesel.
Undid all the nuts holding the cover in place that hides access to the injectors and when I went to move the cover out of the way the front bottom corner was soaking wet (underneath has some foam attached to it). I was unable to remove the cover completely but enough to gain access to the from injector.
It was clear to see that the leak was coming from where the leak off pipe pushes into the injector. gently removed it and saw that the O ring had a nick in it.
I was luckily enough to have a few leak off connectors from a mercedes and the O rings were the same size. Replaced after soaking in diesel for a bit and run the engine for a few mins - no signs of any leaking.

Fixing the cover back in place was simple with access through the inner wing.
