It sounds like the dealer made a mistake when they said it was serviced recently, unless you did a lot of ridiculously short drives or you clocked up some super mileage recently. Either that or there is something that triggers the maintenance prompt, like a fuel filter or brake pads ???? OR forgot to reset the service counter after doing the recent service.

i think the service indicator comes on automatically at set periods so its possible the dealer did service before the indicator came on ...

It's quite clever. It does it on time as well as the amount of fuel consumed. So if you drive it hard, lots of short trips from cold or tow a lot it will ask for a service much sooner than if you just do lots of long motorway drives and accelerate gently. |

The car has only done a few hundred miles since service but the trips have been good motorway runs and no matter how clever the car is there is no way the car can be due another at this stage based on recent usage/ mileage. Trying to acquire from you all my fullest understanding of the possibilities before enquiring further with the dealer. |

if it was due a service, which it would have been in July 12 months after its last, then they should have serviced it as part of the PDI, which I would suggest that they probably did, and just forgot to reset the service indicator. A trip back for an explanation me thinks.....

Yeah it's unlikely they stamped the book but didn't bother to service it at all, though they might not of done a great job on it. Forgetting to reset the service indicator is most likely. |

Tend to agree [hope] that this is most probably a service done and book stamped with an oversight reference the indicator reset.

they told me they were going to fix a couple of dings in the door card, and that the seats couldn't be cleaned any further (slightly grubby on drivers bolster)

Do not, for one minute, think that if they have stamped the book they have done a service, industry wide I'm afraid, if they need a stamp to sell a car then they just wander over to the service desk and do it, they will even fill out that it's been done on their computer system, the only bit they don't bother with is the actual service itself... After all how can you tell if it's been serviced or not...??? Pete

that's what i mean't by serviced it but not done a great job. They probably changed the easy stuff like the filters and oil, but conveniently forget things like spark plugs or anything that involves a little more effort. I mean it's easy to see if an air filter was changed recently, so they'll replace those to look like a service has been done. |
