Never heard of it happening before, but sound a little suspicious if you only had a new one fitted last week. |

I had that once in 1997 with a brand new Discovery V8 - we were sitting just a few metres away when the sunroof shattered - it hadn't been hit by anything. It was in the morning, in strong sunshine, and I think it must have been installed pre-stressed and a little thermal expansion was enough to cause it to fail.

The roof lifted from the inside and shattered outwards - I can see it may have been the heat from the sun.

ouch - not quite the same as a sunroof but I had to get all our velux windows replaced this year as one of them did exactly this - fitter said it was a big problem with a particular size and age of window, he said it tended to be higher temps that caused them to pop (hard to believe as its not exactly been hot and sunny up here). All credit to velux they replaced 6 without any issue. Three guys in 2 vans drove all the way from the midlands and were heading for Aberdeen after me - must be costing velux a small fortune. |

Sorry to hear that. I must say that this is the first time I've ever had this happen in 33 years of motoring.

Again not a sunroof but I've had a toughened glass safety panel around an escalator shatter, turned out to be a microscopic bubble in the glass & temperature fluctuation made it pop. 2011 (MY12) 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

We were on holiday a couple of weeks ago and the glass washbasin in our bathroom shattered for 'no reason' according to the kids at home.
