Transmission shunt

Hi there,

Hoping someone can shed some light.

I've had a 2008 TDV8 with 68k on it for a few months now. Took a long time choosing one, seems very good both mechanically and bodywise, with one owner FLRSH etc.

Anyway, was thinking to get the auto fluid changed soon as a precaution, done this on other cars and to me it makes sense.

I'm used to much lower cars such as S line audi and Mini Cooper S so not 100% sure how tight a big bus like a FF should be, this one was the best of all I drove.

Anyway, sorry to ramble but my question is, how much slack is there in the transmission? I am finding if I'm driving, coast, then speed up again (say going round corner or roundabout) sometimes there's a small jolt/hesitation when power goes back on. Not a bang or anything you'd easily notice but it's there.

Also noticed when I park on slight incline, you put in park, handbrake on and it moves slightly (an inch or so) when you release footbrake,

My feeling is there is some play in the transmission, is this normal?

I had a specialist go over it soon after purchase and he found 2 things that he said at time both minor now, slight leak in transfer box, and rear subframe mounts slightly perished. Could either of these be a factor?

Appreciate any advice.

Andy

All automatics will settle against the parking pawl when you put it in Park, totally normal.

Perished rear subframe bushes are unlikely to cause any bother at all, mine are 5 years older than yours and still look slightly perished...

Transfer box leak should be sorted out really, how long has it been leaking and how much has leaked out?? there isn't very much in there to start with...

There shouldn't be any noticeable shunt in the driveline, could be a CV joint or propshaft joint... Pete

Going in on Friday for check up, will ask about this again too.

if the transfer box is leaking, i would expect it's leaked oil onto the rear gearbox mounts. There must be some sort of rubber mounting to support the back end of the box......

I had this on an old volvo, the oil seal on the back of the gearbox was leaking and turned the rubber mounting into mush.

HI,

Quick update. Checked over by local indi. Verdict is a CV joint although it's very slight.

Getting it booked in when I get back from holiday, along with transfer box leak.

Thanks again.

Andy
